Registration is now open for the 2008 Edinburgh International Open (kindly sponsored by Allen and Overy) to be held on Sunday, February 3rd.
We know this will be our best and biggest tournament to date. It is an open competition, and in addition to a large number of British teams, we will also be hosting many of the international teams that will be participating in the European Parliament IV on the Friday and the Strathclyde Open on the Saturday.
The tournament will have 3 rounds leading to semi-finals. Speeches for the first 3 rounds will be 5 minutes in length, those for the Semi-finals and the Grand Final will be 7 minutes. The Grand Final will be held in our historic debating hall, where our Prime Minister debated in his student days! A black-tie Burns supper and an authentic Scottish Ceilidh will follow, with plenty of booze.
We will have a top-notch adjudication panel and judging pool led by our joint-CAs for the tournament: Adam Mckinlay (Scottish Mace Champion) and Barney Ross (two-time Scottish Mace Champion).
Crash before or after is available (with reasonable prior notice) to all attendants. Food will be provided throughout. Also, as this will follow the both the ESU European Parliament IV and the Strathclyde Open, we will be arranging free bus transportation from Glasgow on the
morning of the tournament. Registration will close at 11:30 AM.
The initial team cap is set at 60 with an institutional cap of 5 teams so we recommend registering early. The costs will be 35 pounds for a team and 15 pounds for an adjudicator. We would appreciate payment by cheque.
