You know what Jono, I think the same fellow is responsible for the price of beer as well.
Let me just check...

Yep, it's Gordon Brown. My statement stands.

I've never quite understood why people complain about the prices of the cheapest drinks in town, especially when the (slim) profits are used to fund societies and student services.

No it doesn't! You have changed what you have said.

1. Carrots are green

No they are not.

2. Yes, but green is a colour and so is orange, so my statement still stands.

He runs the country! He's the head of state. Of course he's responsible.

Dammit, I was looking forward to a Giles/Fett superhalf of the Sabbs, ah well. My commiserations to folks who didn't win. A shame, to be honest, but there we are.

How close did Dalek come to winning? And can we have him for Rector instead?

Well, Tescos is cheaper than offsales on most things. Which is really going to massacre the business when it's license finally gets reduced to 10 pm. Apart from that, Some of the Gin House's student deals were pretty good; though I'm not sure if they were cheaper.
Now some people weren't happy about the content of that last post. And we can't have someone not happy. Not on the internet.

In fact, the socialists didn't do at all well this time round. Excellent.

The Dalek came third out of the five candidates, and is probably open to rector nomination...anything that leads to world domination

Could someone explain o me how the "Casting Vote" works? Is there a student who doesn't vote then votes in the case of a tie.

Casting Vote is held by the Senior Elections Officer. They cast their vote before polls open, by filling in all ballot papers and placing them in a sealed envelope in a ballot box. These ballots remained sealed until they are required, if at all. SEO does not get a second vote. The SEO is also the only student who must fill in the ballot in full, ie if there are 7 candidates (inc RON) they must put down preference from 1-7. Casting can be called into the election for the same position more than once (I believe). For example, in the Science/Medicine Senate race, casting vote was used to decide who would be redistributed. If the two remaining candidates had ended up with the same number of votes at the end, casting vote would come into play again, deciding the winner.

Can anyone explain how a vote gets spoiled? Because a lot of votes seem to get spoiled in each round and that could make a difference to the result.

Many ways. The two most common are when either someone just doesn't fill in a ballot or scribbles it out. The other way is if you just vote 1 against your preferred candidate, and no others, then that candidate gets redistributed. with no other preference indicated, the vote is redistributed to spoils (because we don't destroy ballots).

The union is only the cheapest bar at certain times. There are many times of the week when the same drinks can be bought elsewhere for cheaper. Eg on thursdays, go to the raisin for pint for a £1. Or go to the lizard for some £1.50 fosters. Or the Vic on Tuesdays.

One of the stipulations of our late license is that we don't do massive specials and promotions. (I'm not sure what the exact terms are)

Off-sales is another story entirely. Tesco and Morrisons have massive purchasing power, and operate at razor-thin margins, neither of which are possible for the union.

What about the election results then? Doesn't anyone have an opinion? Have we got a good team or not? Any surprises?
