I must be the only one who doesn't give a fig about Dr Who. It was pants in the 70s and lacking that campy nostalgia the new revival is even worse. Bad acting, shallow plots, melodramatic, takes itself too seriously, etc. But each to their own, what do I know? I thought 'Dude Where's My Car?' was a good film :)

You shall die a peasant's death!

Mind you, I hate Dr Who as well. The soap opera acting, the sitcom writing and the sub par special effects all see to that.

BSG & Stargate:Atlantis ftw!

Oh well, I'm looking forward to it. :P Although I'm hoping Catherine Tate will have learned how to act without shouting so much.

BSG & SGA totally kick ass! David Tennant is steadily getting more annoying . . . . and I only watch Torchwood to mock the dialogue. And for James Marsters. Obviously.

I like the new Doctor Who series. It's not as complex or subtle as, say, Battlestar Galactica can be, but it's certainly not as dire as the Stargate franchise.

Torchwood blows buffalo carcass. Seriously. The dialogue is laboured and trite, John Barrowman is a camp old ham (albeit easy on the eye) and the rest of the cast are pretty sub-par even by BBC Wales standards.

Oh stop trying to compare it to sci-fi, it's a kids show! It always has been.

And the new BSG was good.

Sooooo wrong. SGA deals with a lot of tough and complex issues - particulalry the whole 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions' idea, notably in the waking of the wraith, the Hoffan drug, the Duranda weapon, the turning of Michael (how awesome is Conor Trineer?) All nicely combined with crack! humour. It's a great fandom to be in - I'm rarely drawn into fandom, but it's such a funny and light-hearted community that I love it (where else can you find Girl Scout cookies, wild turkeys or sock puppet AUs?)! While I feel Dr Who needs to take prozac or something. Obviously I'm biased (read: obsessed) . . . but Joe Flannigan's hair? Made of awesome. And David Hewlett *huggles*

I'm still waiting for a SCi-Fi series to be as good as Babylon 5 or X Files.

While I've been waiting, SG-1 and Doctor Who have filled a gap a bit.

Torchwood. I simply cannot execute the necessary vocabulary to articulate just how much I loathe, at every level and in every aspect and in all ways, that cancerously bad show.

The BSG miniseries was great, but the series proper was duller than dishwater despite having most of the right ingredients. Atlantis is okay, but suffers from a chronic lack of O'Neill.

And Dude Where's My Car? was quite good brainless comedy. Nothign like as dire as tripe like Meet The Spartans or Scary Movie 17. I rank it closer to Boat Trip but not as high as Bill and Teds Bogus Journey.

ITS.NOT.REAL.
Dr. Who is Dull. In fact, the only possible reason for watching it is during the adverts of something much more exciting, like, I don't know, Gardeners Question Time, or, Dulux, Watching it dry with Julian Clary.

I'll help you out . . .

OWEN (AKA TOAD MAN): I'm a serial rapist.
GWEN (LOOKS LIMP): 'mm OK. Let's have sex. I feel an urgent need to cheat on my simple fiance.
OWEN: *uses lizard tongue to catch fly*
GWEN: *lies back and thinks of Jack*

Jack: Sooo . . .
Ianto: this is a crap job. Why am I fetching you coffee? What is my actual job? I'm better dressed then you. I'm more articulate than you. A cat in a coma is smarter than you. God.
Jack: *drawls* Soooo . . .
Ianto: Lets have sex.

Toshi: I was out being super clever. What did I miss? Oh. *stands and watches*
Tosh: so, that was disappointingly fast. So, what's behind this door? OMG, I'm blind. Owen! *stabs Gwen*

Okay so the bit at the end of tonights episode was the first time I've been watching a TV program and been like 'wow, did not see that coming', totally shocked but awesome. Yes I'm a geek, I like Doctor Who.

I did not see that coming either. V good ending, and a decent start. Also thought Catherine Tate was actually not at all annoying.

Doctor Who was good! Cheesy but good. This coming from someone who misses Christopher Ecclestone and would happily twat Catherine Tate in the face.

Was v good especially considering how BAD Torchwood was.

I watch it because it makes me realise that I'm not totally untalented and could write better episodes.

Torchwood has been a bit fab this series and I will defend it to the hilt, although probably not Owen in general or John Barrowman's acting abilities. Now that they've realised the show is a bit rubbish, they've turned up the crack element and made it good. Honestly.

Catherine Tate was surprisingly good, as was the episode. Anyone who knows me will realise my feelings on the ending are filled with swearing and RAGE, however.

I'm trying to watch Torchwood online...but my apathy is getting the better of me. Bad dialogue, stupid scripts. They've evidently got good ideas there...but somewhere along the lines it gets totally messed up. Captain Jack Harkness is one of the better episodes of Sci Fi that I've seen in a long while.

I quite enjoyed the Fight Club episode from Torchwood series one too.

Anyhow: Doctor Who.

I really am not a big fan of the 'action packed' Doctor Who episodes. Still, the 'series arc' for this seasons feels quite interesting. On "Pete's world" Rose mentioned there still being another Torchwood to work for. I suppose they attracted the attention of the Timelords in that Universe (PLOT HOLE) and the steady return of the Sontarans, Daleks and Ood should be interesting.

Hopefully we won't have eye-meltingly bad episodes like 42 or the Dalek-duo from Season 3.

Conjecture

I propose that the Doctor throwing away the sonic-pen will be a significant plot detail.

First series Torchwood is pants, except for Captain Jack Harkness and They Keep Killing Susie. Skip straight to series 2, avoid the one with the circus people though.

SPOILER TIME HERE

Apparently the series arc is more to do with environmentalism? Apparently? It'll end up being connected to the Sontaran storyline and Martha's return. Which, incidentally, is the companion we should be excited about. After Rose left, the Doctor committeed genocide on the Raknoss. Post-Martha (and, I suppose, Astrid) he's letting the cuddly fat aliens scoot away and tries to save the Miss Foster. Surely that has to be a bit telling?

I put it down to the fact that the Raknoss were ugly as hell but the adipose were really cute. Fair grounds for and against genocide?!
