I really don't want to lose to China on medal count.

as with all americans, its always 'quantity over quality' with you lot is it? the bigger the number, the better! usa usa, we must be number one in everything!
no offence, but i am being honest..i find you people extremely tedious.

15 gold? Great Scott! Securely in 3rd now above Germany's and Australia's 11. I hope we can keep it up. Cycling and sailing have never been so exciting :)

16 now :P Just watched the Women's 400m final and saw Christine Ohuruogu come from nowhere to storm past the line first. It was incredible.

London 2012 at the Closing Ceremony

Postby Ashamed British Citizen on Sun Aug 24, 2008 1:29 pm

Our national anthem being sung by a piss-weak quoir, Boris Johnson messing up the flag waving, a London bus representing Britian, the pointless dancers showing in-your-face political correctness, the god AWFUL 'Lisa Simpson giving head' logo, an X-factor winner standing on top of a hedge murdering Led Zep's Whole Lotta Love while Jimmy Page mimes playing a guitar, David Beckham kicking a ball off a lift.

I could not feel more embaressment on the world stage. We all knew nothing could top China's olympics but ALREADY we are failing.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to start being so negative.

As you say, we could never match the Chinese. However, I was trying to think the other day of what actually symbolises Britishness and British history - and I must say I struggled to think of things. We don't have ancient customs like the chinese, for example. I think what quantifies British is modernism (for want of a better word). For an 8 minute slot, it was a fair effort as it showed a glimpse of contemporary dance, music, culture etc. I wasn't sure why Beckham was there, but I suppose he has a 'global appeal'.

Give Britain time. It was a great performance to come 4th - let's be proud of what our representatives have achieved and encourage them to move forward and do better next time round.

Oh God! /b/tards on The Sinner?! When did this happen?

The thing to remember is how well we've done. 19 gold, 13 silver, 15 bronze. The best for 100 years for goodness sake. What will be in 2012, will be but right now I think we all deserve to feel a bit of pride. Well, as much as our British reserve will allow :)

Well, I for one am not happy about £160 of my tax money being spent on hosting the Olympics after that piss poor display of what 'Britishness' is.

I am, however, not fond of my tax money being spent at all.

Look at it this way, if we make a complete balls up of the Olympics, THAT will be a true representation of Britishness at its best!

So someone asked me "What is it you do?". I thought about it for a minute. Then I thought about it a little more. All the while I probably looked like I was staring in to space, struggling for an answer. And I was. There was only one response I could really give.

"I make sure the shit stays off the fan."

Yes, I think we can all agree that the 2012 Olympics will go down in history...

"The entirety of these definitions lie outside the gamut of the sRGB color space — such a pure color cannot be represented using RGB primaries. The color swatch to the right is a desaturated approximation, created by taking the centroid of the standard definition and moving it towards the D65 white point, until it meets the sRGB gamut triangle."

The 8 minute slot looked like it was a representation of London rather than Britain....red buses, tube maps etc.....would have been nice if other parts of Britain were represented given that it's not just the Londoners who are paying for it.

However, it wasn't a bad slot.....it was a nice contrast to the Chinese one and showed that the GB games might be more relaxed compared to the Chinese one.

But I have to say.....the Chinese closing ceremony was spectacular.....the memory tower, the people, the dancing etc.....was brilliant.

The Beijing Olympics included representations of things across China...plus the Olympic football in 2012 is being hosted in Glasgow, not London.....so not totally the London Olympics.

If you want me to, I'll bring back the DVDs from both shows, should be about 5 pounds for each. But you may also find most sports and maybe the ceremonies online to some extent, check the Chinese youtube, at tudou.com

Aha!
http://www.cdwow.com/The-Opening-Ceremo ... ew/3578997

2008 Beijing Olympic Games' opening ceremony shocked each Chinese, China was the first country authorized the Olympic Games audio and video distribution right by the the international Olympic Committee.

Not quite sure what that means, but hey.

And at least that explains why every single Youtube video that was uploaded was almost immediately removed!
