New Year? - Bah Humbug?

Postby RandomMusings on Wed Dec 31, 2008 9:12 pm

Anyone else not actually like New Year and actually spending the evening just like any other (in front of their computer/TV, revising, sleeping, whatever)?

My plans tonight are actually nothing but job applications and sleep. Joy and bliss
Hope everyone that is celebrating the end of 2008/beginning of 2009 has an awesome night, however!
...and as the red red robin of time goes bob bob bobbin under the snowplough of eternity.... I see it's time to end

Looking forward to the Big Fat Quiz of the Year though :)

Never really celebrated New Year - I'll probably stop revising for midnight itself and text a few people, but other than that its probably going to be pretty uneventful.

I'm not bah humbug about it but I don't really care either way. I'm not planning anything special.

I'm home in America for the Christmas break, and I'm a bit too lazy and jetlagged to do anything tonight. It's not the new year just yet here. Seeing other people say they're staying in is making me feel like I may do the same, although I'm still considering going to a party. Aside from not really caring about New Year's celebrations, I'm also scared I'll get hit by some drunk driver if I do go anywhere tonight.

I went out and was reasonably entertained. In fact I'm still awake when I should have hit the sack a long time ago, but hey free tube travel in London most of the night, not going to pass that up considering how much it costs usually. Also if any sinner recieved a text from me saying they were my favourite person of 2009 I humbly apologise, drunken lark and all that.

This is shit.

Feels just like 2008.
So someone asked me "What is it you do?". I thought about it for a minute. Then I thought about it a little more. All the while I probably looked like I was staring in to space, struggling for an answer. And I was. There was only one response I could really give.

Family in Dunoon? Those 3 words made me do a double-take. My family also hail from the Clyde Riviera :P

I was in mid-Wales with my brother, visiting my mum. Saw some other relatives, had a quiet-ish night down the pub, was quite pleasant if not overly exciting. Heading back up to St Andrews tomorrow though, exams start next Saturday. :(

Heh, my family moved to Dunoon a year and a half ago cos they wanted to be closer to the water. I grew up in east ayrshire ;) Though it is quite nice that they've gone from having a view of the road and a bunch of houses to a view of the road and the Clyde :-)

Ah, a recent migrant.

I was at college with a girl from Ayrshire last year who didn't know where Argyll was. The fact that you can *see* Argyll from certain parts of Ayrshire made me find her ignorance a tad shocking. Then again, based on how well she did (or, rather, didn't do) at college... maybe it wasn't so shocking.

You can certainly see the sea in Dunoon. Saving a long-arsed (but scenically wonderful) drive via the Rest-and-be-Thankful, you can't *get* to Dunoon without seeing the sea.

I know a girl who was in her second year at Chattan who didn't know how to get to Hamilton.

And another in her fourth year who wasn't sure where the Scores were (Yes, she was a scientist, but how small can you make the town?)
I hold an element of surprise
