Best euphemisms you know...

Postby sushiguru on Wed Mar 18, 2009 5:00 pm

..and their meanings. Having watched The Shawshank Redemption (again) last night, I started this off with pure vulgarity in mind, but then thought it could be seen as an educational tool for international students.

'Pinching a loaf' = taking a sh*t
'Dropping the kids at the pool' = taking a sh*t

Before I get too far into this theme, it's your turn.

I'm away to take the kids to the pool. That is not a euphemism.

Haha, don't get me started on these... I'll be going on forever.

But I suppose I could highlight one that came up today during a conversation I had with some fellow ents:
"A well-earned pat on the back" - A rewarding shag.

A pat on the back alone is fine... It has to be well-earned to be a euphemism. =P
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.

Before coming to St Andrews I worked as a nurse, I've head quite a few euphemisms - many very ammusing.

I once encountered a gentleman who insisted calling his penis his "Bobby Dazzler". And a healthcare assistant who used to yell 'code brown' to alert others (presumably she thought it was in a covert way) to the fact a patient had had their bowels open.

If somebody died it was often said they had been "transferred to the eternal care unit".

I'll stop here, because they're only going to get cruder... :p

Kevin Rudd, the Australian PM, was off sick and said to the assembled hacks when he returned that "Yes, I was sick, but I think that we've all, at some point, driven the porcelain bus"
I hold an element of surprise

Or called Hughey and Ralph on the porcelain telephone.

Or worked out all the anagrams of 'Armitage Shanks'

"Bowing down to the porcelain god" is another variation on the theme

Sickeningly euphemistic management terms: "Terminalising patient care" "Suboptimal outcome" (the patient died)
