The production values of these leaflets are pretty good. I would've thought they'd be using a generic "anti-springer" flyer but they are tailored specifically to St Andrews. Obviously, someone with deep pockets isn't happy.

Ooh! You don't think they had them done in the General Office do you? That would be sweet-ass irony!

In the general office! Are you mad man!

Producing even dozens of double sided glossy A4 fliers in there would bankrupt the Catholic Church itself! Rumour has it the Knights Templar gold was all spent on a "We didn't do Satan" campaign but they only managed to afford 18. Their execution wasn't for heresy or devil worship, but instead for owing the general office money

We have a theory that it's just a big publicity stunt by the people who want to put on the play.

I agree with the man. Next time I go up and punch someone and they report me to the police, I'll chastise the police for failing to recognise that the suffering of children in Africa is a more urgent outlet for their action.

Assuming for the moment this is a real response to a real email.... Meh!

Groups like this feed off of public reactions to their stance. Like the common Troll of the interweb, the worst thing anyone can do is try and engage with them in a reasonable manner. Their minds are made up. On the other hand, if we ignore them, they might go away!

Sidestepping the issue of Christian Voice for the moment, let's play Devils (or god's?) Advocate:

The Union has no business funding and producing a production liable to offend a substantial chunk of the Religious Student population.

Discuss!

Argh, no, Jono, you should never end a posting on The Sinner with 'discuss'....... with 'disgust', maybe, but 'discuss'?

I'll open the discussion.

The union is controlled by elected officials. If anyone has an issue with the union's actions they can voice their concerns to their representatives. If this is not fruitful they can utilise their vote at the next election. That's how a democracy works.

A plug for Islam?

Well - as director I would have to claim that this show has every right to be put on! It not only raises important questions on the nature of art, culture and religion in the 21st century - but also pushes the boundaries of student theatre!

Raises an importand debate, and pushes the boundaries of student theatre. Would you care to elaborate on those points?

Doesn't Jesus appear in a nappy at one point? Having a laugh I could understand, but as for pushing the boundaries, we'll reserve that appraisal for shows with a bit more class, eh?

Reserve praise for something with a bit more class? I think you misunderstand the term 'pushing boundaries'...

Having seen the show at the Fringe a few years back, it certainly DOES push boundaries- at one point I think they had a 7-part harmony going on. Consider that often musicals put on by Just So barely have harmonies at all, Jerry Springer should be welcomed.

I for one can't wait to see it.

Well surely we have to wait to see if it's performed well first? I'm sure the society and performers will do a wonderful job, but praising it before seeing it is surely robbing them of any credit they may deserve?
