White bowties during grad week

Postby dac on Fri Jun 19, 2009 12:13 am

I know guys wear a white bow-tie at the graduation ceremony, but is the white bow-tie also conventionally worn at the garden party and the graduation ball? Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere.

Generally - garden party yes; ball no (black),but you should really just wear whatever you feel most comfortable in.

Are garden parties really that formal? Smart-casual wouldn't be OK then?

Wear whatever you like, but if you've just graduated you're hardly going to have time to change between graduating and going to the garden party. Plus, everyone else will still be wearing their gown, hood and bowtie.
