What's on your desk?

Postby Helena Handcart on Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:28 pm

Trying waste time and work out how slobbish I truly am!

I've got in front of me:

* Mug of tea (cold)
* Biros, highlighters and post-it notes of almost every hue
* Table lamp without a bulb
* 1 x pack of wrong type of bulbs
* 3 x textbooks
* pad with notes for essay
* 1 x pack of crisps (cheese and onion)
* phone
* empty pint glass borrowed from forgotten pub many moons ago
* diary
* pile of uncompleted job application forms staring accusingly at me
* tweezers
* letter from RBS (unopened)
* pack of tissues as I am poorly

You?

My desk in my room has numerous (neat) stacks of papers, essays, letters and somesuch dumped on it,along with loose change, my printer, a couple of pens, some plastic bottles that I can't be bothered to take to the recycling bin and my room phone. Consequently, the desk I'm actually working at has a chocolate bar (Boots sugarfree), gloves, sourcebook, notebook, exam comments and internship application forms on it, soon to be joined by headphones, a jar of peanut butter and a spoon... ^.^

Prepare yourself for the excitment as I up the ante - I have *two* desks!

Study Desk: Computer, a broken computer mouse (I accidently squished it between the hinges a year ago and there it has remained), a spare mousepad stating 'Curves: circle of friends', my actual mousepad with coffee stains, a 'Deadly Donkey' cup half-filled with lukewarm green tea, a thank you card from when I was 16 declaring me *quite* the card player, a copy of the highway code, a mini highligher, my cheque book, a few printouts, an empty glasses case, a book called 'Personal Demon' and a small copy of the New Testament from school which I thought I had long sinced dumped, but which someone has shoved on my desk. And a clean tissue.

Room Desk: an A3 picture of a meerkat I'm working on, some random pastels, a tin of accumulated pastels, bluetack, a copy of BBC Wildlife, a hair clip, heat protector spray, scattered makeup and some makeup wipes.

More than you ever needed to know.

You know you need to get out more when you keep a regularly-updated photo timeline of your desk.

Is there a reason you have blacked-out keys?

They're actually black stickers with white text on them, to do away with Apple's stupid keyboard layout & turn it into an actually useful keyboard layout.

May as well join in on this one (I'm in halls)...

    * 1 book I really ought to return to my supervisor.
    * A small CD case.
    * 1 laptop and 1 desktop HDD (yeah, bit odd).
    * Small stack of paper (including a todo list that's always getting bigger).
    * Pens (always useful).
    * A mug of water.
    * 2 LCD computer monitors.
    * Keyboard and mouse.
    * A pair of Tesco Value computer speakers (not plugged in).
    * My work headphones.
    * Standard issue university telephone and lamp.

Erm... I think mines is a little more messy. :P

Also, the whole two monitor thing - very useful for programming (inc. CS practicals) as you can have the manual and what you're working on open at the same time. Also excessively useful for essays - research on one screen, essay on the other.

On top of that, we use them a lot in broadcast radio studios (e.g. as per here - not me by the way in the pic). Often one with the music library and another with the current playlist. A third monitor can often be seen in studios for browsing the web.

On my desk I have:
- Laptop
- Mouse
- iPod Dock (soon to be moved to bookshelf beside desk)
- 3 different coloured pens
- Yellow highlighter, green highlighter
- Last nights pint glass of water
- Last nights mug (remnants of tea)
- Alarm clock
- 2 beanie babies (Peter Rabbit and a husky, on top of alarm clock)
- Standard issue uni lamp and phone
- Stack of post-its in many, many colours
- Coloured index tab things
- USB stick
- 2x nail polish bottles
- Nail file
- Hand cream
- 2x hair bobbles
- Stapler
- iPhone
- Hair appointment/doctors appointment cards
- 3x books for class
- Sticky tape
- Hair heat protection spray
- Bottle of water
- Glasses case (on top of books)

I need to get something to keep my stationary in, move my girly cosmetic nonsense back to the box from whence it came and take the empties through for a washing...
But then again, I could just be saying that to annoy people...
