Would anyone be interested in embarrassing the University with a negative publicity campaign?

Tempted to wait until I graduate then inform as many members of the press as possible. Very tempted.

Isobel Clifford has a lot to answer for - she is ultimately the voice of Student Accomodation and should be working alongside the students, not against them.

Anyone up for a demonstration outside College Gate and inviting the press?

Kimmie, why do you feel you have to wait until you graduate until you speak to the press? And what are you going to say to them then anyway? A few months ago, our rent went up? Front page material i think not. We need to do something NOW, not later.

Speaking to the press in general is not something I think many people here would feel comfortable with, given that we're not allowed (and rightly so) to speak to the press over HRH presence, you never know how they might twist that to beat you with it.

I've heard nasty sounding rumours about Albany Park next year...

-the new kitchens won't all be finished
-price is going up ten percent
-they're not giving us crockery, cutlery or pans next year(what are they going to do with it all?...)
-there won't be any laundry changes
-we're going to have to go to Dean's Court (wherever that is) if we want so much as a new lightbulb

Does anyone know if any of this is true?

Judging from current events - it seems to be extremely likely.

I'm sure it was only last year when it was revealed that Gatty rent prices would be going up 6% each year for the next four. Have they jacked this up further already? I still remember the large petition that was in the laundry to be signed in process. Was this completely ignored or is it some kind of beurocratic logic, a 6% rise was rejected, perhaps they'll go for 10%.

you expect them to be finished ha ha ha good joke
-price is going up ten percent
This % incldes the technology charge, which while opposed by the SRC, is inevitable, as the uni has only this year taken over the loss making system. the alternative was to loose the phones and the data sockets
-they're not giving us crockery, cutlery or pans next year(what are they going to do with it all?...)
there are rumors, but apparently you will be able to request them, as too many people at present use their own
-there won't be any laundry changes
i have no idea
-we're going to have to go to Dean's Court (wherever that is) if we want so much as a new lightbulb
It is actually supposed to be DRH, and there is supposed to be someone at albany park for 2 hours a day, but I dont belive that personaly, and 2 hours cannot be enough

Does anyone know if any of this is true?

Would wait until graduating since, as pointed out, while HRH is here we aren't supposed to speak to the press. I'm not willing to have got through 4 years of this nonsense just to find I can't graduate due to speaking about something that won't actually affect me.

If you are that desparate now, you could take photos of the areas in hall that are the most badly affected and not going to be dealt with(areas of mould etc.) Could then take all the necessary figures (prices of halls 3-4 years ago, prices this year, prices for 2003/4 session), send everything to the press anonymously and let them make up whatever charming headlines they care to come up with.

But that's only a suggestion.

You're not allowed to speak to the press about HRH. You can talk to them about anything else. I have.

You are not allowed to bring the university into disrepute, so you cannot say negative things to the press.

when we moved in this year, the upgrades to our house werent finished, we were minus carpets, working doors and working boiler.
Some dumbass has painted the doors then closed them all so they dried shut, we broke the glass in the front door kicking it open, and the boiler had been assembeled wrong so it could only give hot OR cold, and couldnt mix them for the shower... i.e freezing cold or steam clean. And noone had bothered to replace the upstairs carpets after removing them all. The new kitchen cabinets are also coming away from the wall too, and theres a nasty crack in the wall behind them. Thats what they get for fixing them to that stupid window / wall job in the kitchen.

That said we did get a big f*ck off fridge, so it wasnt all bad.

wow! just checked my old hall paperwork, and since 2000, regs has gone from £2035 to £2461.80, 18% in three years is certainly inflation busting taken to extrmes.

And what the frigg does that 80pence pay for???

but the truth would bring the uni into much more disrepute; that it takes as much money of students as it can. i don't think that that's something the ambassadors will be shouting about on visiting days.
