Please do not use this board for the illegal sharing of software. If it continues further action will be taken.

IT Services have a site license for F-Secure. You can get it on cd from the ITS helpdesk in the library for the cost of a cd (about 50p) or download it from:

I think the illegal filesharing bit may have been what we call 'edited out'. You think?

I edited the end of the post, where I removed the offer of illegal software sharing.

The link (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... nfodb.html ) as you said is free and not illegal.

You could also try AVG Anti-Virus, it has a free version and is meant to be quite good.

AVG's the best free one, and when resnet's not being caned by whoever, it'll update in a few seconds. it's got a tiny memory footprint, too.

Its a interesting point that software piracy can sometimes help the software companies. I used "The Special Gold Edition which comes with no manuals or documentation but which is still strangely legal" of Norton Anti Virus for a year, and was so happy I quickly paid for a legal copy when that subscription ran out.

Does anyone know why when I try and install the AVG free version another program "Final Draft %" tries to install intself? Any help would be much appreciated.

If you got it from the grisoft website, I'm sure its fine. I dont remember AVG trying to install any other programs when I installed it, so I'm assuming its just a component of the software.

By the way, I have been using AVG as well as Norton for a while now, and AVG has found some infections that Norton missed out. Not to say norton is bad tho. Only real problem with it is that it sucks up a lot of system resources whereas AVG doesnt. You may also want to try Norman Antivirus free edition. THis uses even less resources. You can get it at www.freebieholics.co.uk
