Whilst I sinned over the summer, I heard of this barmy, old dear, who was well known for attacking us hedonistic students and threatening fire and brimstone on us all, unless we came to her church for a nice cup of tea, some cake and a whole lotta repenting.

WHERE IS SHE?!

No 1st years seem aware of her, I did here a rumour about a broken hip, but that's about it. Perhaps she is recharging for the utterly unholy spectacle that will be Raisin Weekend?

I walked past her on north street yesterday. the girl in front of me was handed a flyer, but I emerged unscathed. i have no idea how.

i've seen the whole fmaily on the route of the pier walk, but they do seem to be keeping a very low profile.

You WILL meet her at some point... and may God have mercy on your soul when you do. I stress this, O son of mine - DO NOT ASK HER FOR DIRECTIONS, as you will be led by a roundabout route to her scary church, where you will either be baptised or burned at the stake, depending on the phase of the moon.

I noticed that there has been an old guy around the place with placards attached to himself and also to a large pole that he carries out. Maybe Mr Ross? Oh, and come on, she's not really that bad is she? Even if you do not agree with what she believes....

She hangs around the Buchanan Building and Younger Hall quite a lot!

I recall she was handing out leaflets to people at the sports hall, while we were all waiting to get in for our exams. Outside Buchanan building after class might be a touch irritating, but before exams like that I personally object to.

Are you kidding? It's precisely before my exams that I need her prayer the most!

I haven't seen this woman and i'm about the Buchanan building everyday - although i did see that old guy outside there one day: Sex before marriage means hell after death.

They're not very forgiving at all, these people, are they? ^_-

Yes, at one point I did see the guy with placards. He actually engaged in a shouting contest with some neds from Madras college. So stupid and misguided.

I have a mate who's involved in at least three churches in StAnd, and one or two at home. She was accosted by Mrs Ross and tried to explain that, as she does all this stuff for the church, and REALLY believes in it, she reckons that she's alright.

WRONG!

It's only going to Mrs Ross's church that saves you. Until my mate does that, she's as damned as the rest of us.

The Gospel Hall on the cobbled bit of Market Street as far as I know- the one with bible verses in all different languages. I think its a Brethern church.

Its just Gospel Hall - Gospel Hall is a separate denomination from Brethren as far as I'm aware.

If you want to find out more about what Gospel Hall people believe - they have a website!
http://www.gospelhall.org.uk

Or, for the St Andrews Gospel Hall:
http://www.gospelhall.org.uk/assemblies ... /index.htm - incidentally the contact person listed on that website is a Mr Ross - so presumably this is the church Mrs Ross is from.

SO.... it's sort of a Calvinistic church isn't it? They certainly bang on about being justified by faith, not so sure if they mention pre-destination. I'll have to ask her.

I always say "No Thanks, I'm a Muslim" which always shuts the nutters up, especially considering I'm a white Scot :)

Usually these sorts of people know *nothing* about other religions and are completely dumbfounded by "why not believe Mohammed?"

It's not a calvinistic church....

Here's why without a hell of a lot of theological mumbo....

Calvin believed in pre-destination...basically if you're going to heaven at some point you will wake up, smell the cheese, become a Christian, die and go to heaven...if you are pre-destined!

Mrs Ross is "preaching" or "evangelising" which basically means they take their religious slant to be "all men* who call on the name of the lord will be saved" yadda yadda yadda

Her church is not Calvinistic or they would just wait for you people to walk through the door...

* this is in aid of PC...I try to keep it to their dusty old book as much as possible... read quote as "all people...".....Did I mention I hate PC????
