What sort of 'constitutional description' did you have in mind? The majority of people in NI want to remain British, simple as that. As an aside, the only time Ireland has been 'united' has been when she has been under British rule. By the way, don't read too much into the whole fake email thing, actually this is just a bit of a laugh - in other words not actually a test.
Probably the old chestnut of "Great Britain and Northern Ireland" that has been abused so much.
Great Britain consists of England, Scotland and Wales. It doesn't and never has included the province of Northern Ireland.
Possibly the most ingenious get-around to that that I've been given was when a Unionist explained slowly and carefully, presumably because he reckoned some of us needed it, was that yes there is "Great Britain" under those terms but there is also "Britain" - as in "Made in Britain" - that also exists and that's what is being referred to. He cited the undeniable fact that "no-one talks about being "Great British" but only "British"" and that, therefore, the place itself must exist.
In some ways, to sound totally cynical, I wouldn't have a problem with Northern Ireland becoming British - they could have our place and we could become Scots!!
