I think that "Your money or your life" really is a touch to classy for this university.

I think that "Give us ya monay", delivered in a suitable accent would be more appropriate.

I wouldn't like to say what accent it should be. I, afterall, have never had anything against fork lift truck drivers; I believe they make a valuable contribution to society. It truly is a pity that the same can't be said for them once they move onto a new profession.

1905, to be exact, is the date of matriculation of the current arms. Previously to these, there existed one with quarters as the royal arms of Scotland, the arms of Henry Wardlaw, the arms of Pedro de Luna, and the arms of Scotland, (examples being in Sallies dining room, and in a small book on the University Heraldly in the Library). Whether these were matriculated, I do not know.

Yes, the current arms are twentieth century, though sources say anywhere from 1905 to 1911. The previous university arms mentioned were not registered, and as such were illegal. In the 1953 Civis, the guide the Students Union once produced, the University Court is blamed for frequently running afowl of Scotland's heraldic authorities.

The legal arms we have now, however, do incorporate various elements from the previous arms in what is thought to be a more harmonious fashion. There is, for example, the Stewart lion rampant, the Wardlawdian mascles (lozenges), the crescent of de Luna, and the per Saltire division remeniscent of St Andrew/Scotland.

R.G. Cant goes into some detail of the heraldry in his history of the University. The earlier editions, I believe, include depictions of unmatriculated arms of St. Mary's and the United College.

Right now, I suspect they would accept Monopoly money if they could slip a real fiver on the top and bottom of the wad and hope the Bank didn't check it out too hard.
