Pompous Bigots??(revised)

Ok, I see that my posting was probably badly written and pathetically put, so lets just put it simply,
Why do people hate the KK so much?

Dear oh dear.

Is this stream-of-consciousness post supposed to constitute pro-KK argument? Your allusion to "guys' changing rooms" is ridiculous - unless, of course, you know something for sure about the Kate Kennedy Club gentlemen that we all don't (i.e. their being naked at all meetings, for example?).

My dear -- if you don't care what people think, thus not requiring/desiring a response, then why are you posting on here?

If you take offence at people laying their condescending crap on you, then perhaps you shouldn't have posted a message: the badly-written, ill-informed and frankly silly nature of your first post simply invites condescension, and rightly so. Get a life.

"they're doing something productive and helpful and keeping to themselves while having fun!"

Hmm. Productive and helpful? Exactly who do they help? We've seen that their only obvious charity work concerns an unspecified donation to the St. Andrews hospital (ref. "Boycott the KK(K) Jazz night" thread).

Keeping to themselves? I hardly class standing outside the Library, harassing people to buy overpriced tickets for their events (which may be good fun) as keeping to themselves.

Nor do I class it as influencing University policy (they are a highly influential group), neither do I class it as the vicious backbiting, social climbing and slander by their members of those who have had contact with the organisation (and then "fallen from grace"). Trust me, it's happened to me, and while one of the members of the KK concerned left the University many years ago, he still exerts a powerful influence in the town.

"Ok they may b a bit high on their own superiority" I think this is putting it mildly to say the least; one only had to attend Chapel on Sunday (when they were out in force) to experience their collective feelings of superiority, condescension and disdain towards everybody else; the Martyrs' Memorial was funnily enough not a "tradition" started by the "gentlemen" of the Kate Kennedy Club.

Tintin, didn't you apply to join the KK?

I may well have done, Ms Bush, but it doesn't mean that my opinion of them has to remain fixed. One grows in maturity as one gets older.

people hate the kk because they lie.
they say they give money to charity and that they have nothing to hide but its clear that they do have things to hide. they're not affiliated to the union and they're not a registered charity.
they're not a registered charity or affiliated to the union because they would have to be open to scrutiny.
their activities would be illegal under scots law if they were a registered charity.

Actually, the reason that the KK isn't affiliated to the Union is because the Union won't let them. Societies have to have membership open to all students to affiliate.

However, I do agree that they're probably hiding something.

They don't need to be a registered charity, as they are not raising money for themselves, which is why one would become a registered charity. Instead, they are raising money for others. Ergo, they are not eligible to be a regsited charity.

For a society to be affiliated to the Union, they need to abide by the terms and conditions of the Union, one of which is that membership should be open to any matriculated students in the University. This is why the CU and KK, among others, are not affiliated.

For people to unfairly critise the KK without knowing anything about it is childish, stupid, and a waste of time. Unless people actually can substantiate what they are saying, then they might as well take their baseless petitions elsewhere.
Case closed.

Case not closed. I think it would be far more fair to say that unless people can provide the evidence that the KK gives money to charity in the amounts it claims too then people are free to question it all they like.

This place is bizarre, arguments always come full circle. It used to be fine to criticse the KK but now because people have done in the past they are little angels who no one is allowed to say a bad word about? It cannot be called unfair criticism when the people in question deliberately keep everything a big secret - hardly something that a society with nothing to hide would do. I don't care if the society in question is the KK or some random one, deliberately hiding facts is not on. So what if there have been arguments in the past about the KK - that doesn't people no longer have a right to question them. You like them, fine but a lot of people don't for many different reasons. Many people like other organisations but that doesn't mean no one os allowed to criticise them.

All this overly defensive posting has made me very suspicious and I couldn't have cared less when this thread started. Now however I would like to see proof of their charitable donations as I strongly suspect they do have something to hide, especially given the vehement and aggressive, not to mention insulting, posts in their defense.

And as for "case closed" this is a public forum where people can discuss whatever they like. If you don't like it then don't bother reading or replying but to tell people to stop talking about it? That is very rude. And as usual the thread would run a whole lot smoother if people didn't insist on taking every single criticism so personally!

The problem with the KK is as much that they are discriminatory as anything else. As they do not wish to allow anyone on to their 'elite' group the effect is that they are seen as sexist, and even elitist. this is why people dislike them so much. The likelihood that they are not open about their funding of charities is probably due to ineptitude rather than any conscious decision, although their secrecy appears to be a recent phenomenon. In summary, they are idiots!

Lets face it, it's one of the most boring topics around; you just get into a circular argument between "live and let live" and "It's sexist".

As for them disclosing what they give to whom, it's not really our business in the end. If you want to know, ask them at one of their charity events. If they don't tell you, don't give them your money; simple.

I for one don't give them any money because I think there are far better causes around or far better ways to get money to the good causes.

As for their secrecy; maybe they're the front for an international sexist conspiracy? Or then again maybe they're just incompetently run by inbred rich people?
