Does anyone know if any of the dry cleaners in town do alterations etc as well? I haven't got time to learn to sew...

Given the fact that your post was posted ages ago, I'm pretty sure that you' ve solved your problems. But if not: "In stitches" (right behind Somerfield and the University book binding services) are wonderful when it comes to alterations. And very very nice people.
