God theres even a guy on the first floor who listens in to the girls in the ground floors convos with a microphone!

Apart from me and and 3 other people most seem to be unhinged!

Ladies and gentlemen, there seems to be some sort of paranoid confusion going on here - and I should like to put it to a stop on behalf of a friend of mine, the afforementioned gentleman accused of using a MICROPHONE to listen into girl's conversations.

Let me inform you of a wonderful little invention we have these days - it's called a thermistor, and with an ingenius little computer chip this can be used to do something rather unusual - read temperature! And guess what, ladies and gentlemen? It can be attached to the end of a wire so that you can measure the outside temperature! Unbelievable!

Of course, such never-before-seen, hi-tech inventions as THERMISTORS might well be mistaken for a small, hi-tech microphone with the capability to hear through an open window over a large distance - and indeed, anyone who can afford a THERMISTOR can CERTAINLY afford one of those, expensive as these new-fangled thermistors must be - but it is not - it is, indeed, a thermistor.

Furthermore, ladies and gentlemen, it takes some sort of real prat (sorry, but it really is true) to think that anyone cares what a bunch of girls are saying - who really cares? Certainly not my friend, who I shall keep anonymous for obvious reasons, as this particular person I should imagine has at least the vaguest notion of what "self-respect" is - something which I understand is also, like the thermistor, evidently something that people on this board have little notion of - afterall, falsely accusing somebody of something totally ridiculous is the worst form of paranoid delusion, which I think demands a certain lack of self respect.

So dearest ladies and gentlemen, I do hope that I have cleared up some confusion and introduced some new concepts to you at the same time. Good night.

Why the HELL would he be reading the temperature outside thier window... more to the point why would he be measuring any temperature with a thermothingy???

And I am not a firestarting psyco Craig! I can assure you that any fires I intended to start would be in a carefully controlled environment (actually a bin would probably be a good place).

Just to clarify this, I was innocently walking home when I happened to notice a large ammount of smoke coming from the bin, and only stood to watch it burn. I didnt actually start the fire!

Anyway if Shairp's an armpit, at least its an armpit with Conrad.

I've seen the so called 'microphone'. It isn't really low enough to catch any vibrations from the room it's supposedly bugging, and the person whose room is supposedly being bugged never thought to actually fucking ask the guy upstairs what it was - she just announced he was listening in to her room.

Obviously if it turns out to be a mic, I stand corrected. But then that would be quite serious, wouldn't it. And don't all jump on the guy because it's a fucking thermistor - who the hell are you to judge what he does? It's completely harmless. I'd say it's even sadder to jump to conclusions and start accusing people of spying on them. You aren't the centre of the fucking universe, you're not that important. Leave the guy to his temp. readings and I'm sure he'll leave you all to spread rumours across the sinner.

To the person who has decided he has no right to stick things out his window in the first place - tell one of the wardens. You aren't the guardian of all DRA window's sanctity.

Fair enough, it is a funny image though (having not seen the equipment myself).
I am still partly curious to find out what was really going on. Who knows perhaps we might learn something interesting and unexpected about the DRA climate patterns etc.

So, let's look at the evidence,who should you belive in this most interesting debate. We've all been to argos, an alarm clock has more than one function these days, they'll be wiping your ass soon I'm sure, we've all seen those big silver digital monstrosities that also act as a weather station.
As to the girls question, why is he measuring the outside temperature outside? well you must be an arts student, and a pretty slow one to?
Question 2, why is he measuring the outside temperature? well if your in a country which is virtually arctic and you live in a hall that is so far away from town that you wouldn't have to worry if St Andrews was hit by a nuclear war head, then it is quite nice to know if you have to simply put on a hat and gloves, or maybe even a scarf. May be a willy warmer for the pervert that he is!
So now the girls side of the arguement, a microphone, to listen to her, spy on what? for any pervert a camera would surely be a better 'spy tool'.
And sorry don't know who the girl is but she must be pretty self obsessed to think that someone would want to record her...
Is she a good singer, full of great Ideas? talks dirty?
Well I think we all can see who the weirdo is here, no need to over analyse it.
If you wake up and you're deciding to wear the coat or not you know who to get in touch with, but careful he might record you!!!

Actually im a male science student
(and relativly quick?). Now whos jumping to conclusions.
Surely people can survive perfectly well without having to rely on a thermistor to decide whether they need thier coat on or not, then again this is St Andrews...
