longing for the pub

Postby kateness on Wed Aug 10, 2005 11:08 pm

I miss Real Ale! *weeps openly at the sight of bad American beer*

...okay, so it's not all bad, but no one here goes to the pub in the afternoon. WHY?! They don't know how to live, obviously.

In any case, drink as many pints as you can stomach for me this year. Then drink more.

I know what you mean. My friends have been drinking Bud Select which for you blissfully ignorant brits is Anheiser Busch's attempt to make a beer into a lo carb energy drink with Ginseng and other such things. Needless to say it tastes like piss. I have been getting some pretty good stuff with my dad since a local liquor stoor has bettle conditioned ale (Fullers, Youngs and a few others). That said I still miss a good pub. It sucks so much that it means nothing alcohol wise that I am 19 over hear. While I'm on the subject of shitty american beer why does the whey pat have Bud on tap? I mean they are better than that.

I know! When I did the pub quiz there with real ale, the prize for the round I won for my team (yay!) was a round of bud (WHYYYYY?!) I was so disappointed. Why would a reputable real ale-selling pub want to insult themselves by having that? Oy.

It's still better than Tennants.

I would tend to disagree since Tennents has some flavor despite the fact that it is poor while bud has none what so ever. Also Bud is made with rice to cut down on costs. That is just inexcusable.

Shocking news this Summer is that the Whey Pat now has a beer garden!

From a quick one over though it would appear that it is fairly tightly wedged between the road and the shell station and there seem to be quite a few outerbuildings behind the bar. Is there some space I am not seeing?

Me and my associate were reading this when we had to clarify...

The Whey Pat Beer Garden consists of a singular gruby table, stunning views of the wheelie bins, a rusty old padlocked bike and of course a pethora of growth between the courtyard slabs...all squeezed into a 2x2 metre area.

An unforgettable experiance! What a beer garden!

I have heard much about the Whey Pat pub garden tonight, mostly from Lew. I look forward to experiencing this unique delight come pub garden season.
