Necessary or just disgusting?

Earlier today as I was mindlessly strolling down South Street, I saw something which grossed me out a little. On the side of the pavement was a mother and a small child, he was about 3-4 years old, and she was holding a plastic bag for him to urinate in.

Necessary or just disgusting? Or both?

when you have to go, you have to go. and little boys and girls have to go an awful lot, often just a few minutes after being in the near vicinity of a toilet. same goes for us sometimes. thing is, small children can actually get away with peeing in public!

Last week I saw a hairdresser sneeze into her hands and carry on cutting hair without washing them... yuk!

This was about a year ago, but I was walking down Market Street on your typically busy Saturday afternoon and just outside Woolworthes this woman was holding her son, who was only about a 18months/two years, over a drain so he could urinate. I did a double take, I couldn't believe my eyes!!!!

Really? Doesn't shock me at all. When a kid's got to go, it's got to go. And he was peeing down a drain anyway.

Actually, to return to the OP, I was going to question the plastic bag and ask why she didn't just have him do it down the drain .

I didn't stick around long enough to actually see what she did with the bag afterwards... I'm sure the drain would have been a better option than the bin anyway!

I do agree if you gotta go, you gotta go, but if they can't find a toilet they can AT LEAST have the courtesy to find somewhere private to do it. I really don't want too see a small child's bare arse as they pee in Market Street outside the Christmas Shop. Kinda spoiled the Xmas Atmos for me.

They have these cool little toilet seat thingys with handles on either side and gel-filled baggies underneath. Mum or Dad (or guardian) holds the seat, kid sits and does its business, gel looks in liquid odour etc, jobs done.
And believe me as a nanny I know, when a kid has to go, it really does have to go. Having a wet and squelchy (you know what I mean...) kid walking about the shops is MUCH worse that whipping this out for them to use. (this was in days before they all had loos you could use)

It could have been worse, it could have been an old man's hairy grey wrinkled arse! At least childrens arses are inoffensive!

Is this a new over-sensitivity to the infantile naked form arising from the recent paedo witch-hunts? Do we find children engaging in what would be inappropriate behaviour for an adult threatening and why?

It's not just inappropriate for adults. It's inappropriate for everyone. No one would tolerate parents allowing their child to run naked up and down the street. Why should they tolerate it on the beach?
