Driving Lessons in St Andrews

Postby Steve123 on Sat Apr 07, 2007 8:20 pm

Hi,

I know this question has been asked before but I was just wondering if anyone had some upto date advice on driving instructors in St Andrews? I'd appreciate any information on the length of lessons and the price.

Thanks for your help.

Obligitory "Bill's a legend" reply.

Google for DRM driving school and make sure you get Bill. £32 for a 90 min lesson.

How much!!! Is that an average price for these days? It does not seem that long ago that I was paying £15 an hour for my lessons. Sure am glad that I passed my test, and am no longer having to take lessons.

Having said that, does anyone know if 'Bill the Legend' or anyone else in St A's teaches the advanced driving course. On reflection, even £32 for ninety minutes for a few lessons will be more than worth it for the reduction in my insurance, which given that I now have two accidents against my name will be greatly appreciated. (And before I get landed with the comments on my driving, the first accident was due to over confidence on my part when setting off at a junction, and the second most recent accident was meeting a large lorry at the top of a blind summit, and the blame was apportioned to both parties. Long story.)

I know Bill teaches the Pass Plus course, I'm fairly certain DRM do Advanced driving, though I'm not sure if you would get Bill for that, or if they have separate instructors for that.

I can also vouch for Bill, good instructor, very patient and he has a few good stories to tell!

As an aside, if you go to an evening session with the police in glenrothes then you'll only have to pay £35 for a Pass Plus course :-)

As usual, my word of support for Bill here, he got me through my test and I plan to do Pass Plus with him soon. DRM do Advanced Driving, although I'm not sure it's Bill who teaches it. See their web site at www.drmdrivertraining.co.uk.

Ooh, Bill's back driving again? Last I heard he'd had a heart attack and was off work.

I may have to start my driving lessons up again then.

According to another thread, Bill has retired, as they closed the Cupar test centre and Bill didn't want to learn the routes for Dundee.

Try Peter Rees school of motoring (07709 516576); nice guy, spent decades working with the red arrows and now teaches driving in-between rounds of golf or caddying.

For those interested in advanced driving, join the St Andrews group of the Institute of Advanced Motoring (IAM) and save £££s on your inn-sewer-ants: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group ... 1963893309

Cost is only £79 for under 25s (£99 for old gits, like me). You'll need to have a car in St Andrews. Obviously. I'm very keen to speak to anyone interested in doing their advanced driving and then going on to train as an observer and train others.

I hope it wasn't work-related.
...then again, that is only my opinion.
