graduation dvd

Postby snoopy on Wed Jul 11, 2007 7:11 pm

I was going to get a dvd of graduation. why. for my insomnia. anyway, the point is someone at grad day bought one - £15. They are £30 on the website of the company who did the recording. How can they justify such a huge mark-up. that doesn't seem fair????

As far as I am aware they were all being sold for £30 - didn't come across anyone else who got one for any less than £30. Unless that particular ceremony was a very short one and they slashed the price accordingly. The DVDs are particular to each morning or afternoon service.

Christ, did they include any extras, deleted scenes a or director's commentary on the DVDs?

What did everyone think of the choir in the ceremonies? We always face a sea of stony glares, and feel like everyone wants to throw their programmes at us... is it true or are we lighthearted relief?!

It was the biology/medic graduation, so quite long I think. the mystery deepens.

The DVD started by showing some footage taken around the town, but it was a few years old. It showed College Street, before it had been repaved, and that must have been at least 4 years ago? And I'm pretty sure I recognised a student in one of the around town shots who was an undergrad at the same time as me - 97-01. I must dig out my old graduation video and see if it's the same...we didn't get DVDs in those days!

Personally, I couldn't understand why the fuck we had to sit and suffer the choir at my ceremony - or indeed, any of the others I've been to over the years.

No offence, but last fucking thing I want to see (or have my ears suffer) when I'm getting capped.

Funky flunky munky...
So someone asked me "What is it you do?". I thought about it for a minute. Then I thought about it a little more. All the while I probably looked like I was staring in to space, struggling for an answer. And I was. There was only one response I could really give.

"I make sure the shit stays off the fan."

I kinda liked the fact that the choir chose two short songs... no one wanted to sit around too long after we'd been capped... you just wanna get out and drink. My parents did comment that they thought Puppet on a String was an odd choice.... I liked it but they thought the international families would think it a bit bizzare that a choir would sing something like that. I guess the British sense of humour is more forgiving of such quaintness.

The choir certainly made up for my lack of singing during Gaudeamus. And that of my friends. And my family. And most others.

I do however think I could sing it now, as the tune has been stuck in my head for weeks now.

My copy of the dvd was also £30, a price worth paying in my book (though less would have been better), as I have a hole in my memory from standing beside the foliage to the point where I stood to early and Brian Laing smiled at me. I have watched myself over and over and can still barely remember it. It is good to have because you miss a good many of your friends baretta moments while out back getting papers and hood adjustments (sorry to the woman doing that on my day, I didn't mean to stand on your foot). Brian Laing was impressive as well. He really seemed proud of everyone that day.
