Hm, interesting what I just read on Wikipedia under the Facebook entry:

"There was immediately a barrage of comments on the Facebook blog post which announced the new features that morning, most of which expressed dislike with them. Within an hour, Facebook disabled comments on its blog."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook#A ... f_features

I have a feeling this feature may not survive in its current form for too long.

I'm not sure I really understand everyone's objection? Facebook suddenly seems like a really buzzing community, whereas before it just seemed like a collection of pages. I can see what people are doing and what's happening in my groups at a glance, whereas previously i would have had to go to several pages to check the same things. If there's anything you particularly don't want everyone to know you've done, you can delete it, but I thought the whole point about walls was that they were public? Private messages are for anything else.

I think it's drastically improved Facebook, which when I joined was just a collection of profiles with the option to "Friend" and "Poke" and was completely completely pointless.

Right, if you leave facebook and it gets changed back, will they let you back on?

Also the events I've been invited to, will I still be able to go?

I'm not organised or good at keeping up with people and don't have a phone so I do rely on facebook to say to people, 'I'll see you at such and such a time' so it would be a pity to leave, but I am really annoyed.

I just don't like people knowing who's walls I have written on, etc.

You CAN delete a feed when you do someting. But honestly, couldn't someone see you'd written on their wall just by navigating to their page before? What's the difference, really? It just makes it easier to do that.

I only thank God it isn't logging whose walls I visit and which pictures I stare at.

That's about 3 hours less a day procrastinating. It's taken the fun completely out of it.

But it was random and fun.

I don't mind knowing what's happening in my groups, and actually seeing what people have updated on their profiles is useful, instead "X has updated their profile", but telling me what interaction they've had in groups I don't even know about or writing on mutual friends' walls? I don't need to know that, especially if people are sharing "in-jokes" that no one else would get.

The community may be buzzing now, but I fear it's from the sound of a hornets' nest of angry users.

I see there's now a Facebook group (what else?) protesting against the changes. Perhaps worth joining.

There's also another group here, which is bigger - it's the third I've come across until now...

Apparently facebook are not too keen on changing it back yet. Also, have a look at this article: http://www.forbes.com/technology/2006/09/01/facebook-myspace-internet_cx_rr_0905facebook.html. Might the new idea just be a way of getting people to log on more frequently, thus selling more first-page advertisements?

And one more thing: This new feature shows just how easy it is to collect information from facebook, if pulse didn't already show that before. To stop facebook from using your information, click on "my privacy", then "everyone" and uncheck the box in the "Facebook Development Platform".

Well, the Facebook Development Platform thing is only relevant if you use any of the custom Facebook scripts people set up (see Developers at the very bottom of the Facebook pages) - some of which are actually kind of interesting. Unticking yourself from that doesn't stop Facebook itself from using your information however it sees fit.

I've just done a search, there are over 50 groups against the news feeds.

Is it just me or is Facebook suffering slightly from these new feeds? Every time I try to load "My Groups" or "My Friends", bits are missing, people are popping up in different time zones and the like. It's all rather confusing...

I'd say not a problem. Just quit facebook and join another similar network or don't join if you don't want to. That would be my advise too...

Guys, don't just join groups.

Click on the help link on the top-right of the facebook page. From there, head to 'suggestions', and send them a note telling them how much you dislike this news feed business.

But isn't doing something productive, compared to starting groups and poking randoms, against what Facebook is all about?

Facebook LOVES the controversy. It's got everyone talking about it. The newsfeed is focusing on it. Can't you see, it's getting a rise out of everyone which is PRECISELY what it wishes to do. If someone hasn't hrd of facebook this'll make sure they do.
