Dear all,
I am doing a research about the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race...
I just wonder if the young people are interesting in this race?
will you watch it on TV every year?? Are your parents more interesting in it???

Thanks~~~

My parents are seldom, if ever, interesting.

not even if they were in the boat race? mum for oxford and dad for cambridge? you would at least be able to use interesting as a euphemism for the mood at home.

and for what it's worth, neither my parents nor i are interested in the boat race. mum only watches football, and sometimes rugby, and dad only really watches celtic play.

I will diminish, and go into fourth year, and remain Cain

In my experience, *no-one* cares about the Boat Race. When my sister was at Oxford, she only watched it when she had friends in the boats.

Why can't we have a St Andrews vs Dundee boat race.

st andrews vs dundee, now would that be a boat race in the traditional sense or a boat race in the drinking game sense? i dont know about our chances at either!

I normally try and watch it. It's not that boring - last year's race was so close!

I quite enjoy watching the boat race. It is a fine British sporting occasion, and is best enjoyed with a glass of Pimms.

Make it interesting...

Well why not make it that the losing team gets executed live on tv. Lets face it, as grim as it sounds everyone would watch the race because it would then actually mean something, and then they'd watch the execution afterwards because of morbid curiosity...

Lol@Comedy. Really, its so fucking boring. Whats so exciting about a bunch of guys going down a river? Whilst I respect those who are interested in it, I do honestly think its a waste of time. It is a tradition, yes, but it would be more interesting if you just got a bunch a people airing their views over Oxford and Cambridge over a rather large spliff. Screw tradition:p

I watch the boat race every year as I used to go to school near Oxford and I know people from my old school who are in the Oxford boat. I quite enjoy watching the race, last year I went to london and sat by the river to watch it. Definitely a great event and good to watch if one knows anything about it or has had any positive contact with rowing.

I'd never even heard of the Oxford vs Cambridge boat race thing before last year. I was visiting my extended family who were all watching it. They had an extra interest in it because one of my close cousins goes to Cambridge, though he doesn't actually participate in the boating. But I got the impression my family had always watched it anyway more because it is historic and traditional. And they tend to just support the underdogs. I seem to remember one University has had much more wins than the other, but I can't remember which way round. Anyway, I'm not interested n it myself, but I may watch it just because there is so much chatter about it, so I'd be curious to know how it goes.

The Boat Race is truly the most boring and meaningless sporting event in the world.

And they're all ringers anyway; olympians disguised as students in an attempt to give a few thousand bragging rights for a few hours.

Lillian, you have a tough task.
