modern american culture is very interesting because it involves such a mix of backgrounds - british, hispanic, oriental, african...

I enjoyed that definition since it is quintessentially an 'american'/ ignorant statement. You start off saying that american culture is a blend of backgrounds, brittish - fair enough a country -, hispanic - an umbrella term for people from many countries-, oriental - another umbrella term for people from the 'far east', and finally to put the final nail in the coffin, african - a continent with many countries, different people and lots of cultures. Considering that Nigeria alone has 500 different languages, it is funny that African culture is considered as a whole to which I presume would be used to descirbe the studpid, racist and very incorrect portrayed by 'african-americans'. Just a though.

language - I'm multi lingual so I'd obv like to continue to speak the other languages I've been brought up with. Someone who understands the culture and why things are done a certain way - someone who can get involved with and understands the traditions of the culture.

So you are saying that you would raher go for somebody who spoke 'your' language and had the same ethnic background as you, as opposed to somebody who was asian. Firstly, no human culture is so esoteric that it cannot be learnt, and since I assume that you are not from this place but are in fact american or even british, then shouldn;t that fact that you have been raised in this culture make you 'compatible' with them. Please bare in mind that people from different cultures have been getting together pretty much from the dawn of time, very few people are in fact purely from one cultural type. Just a though.

I don't think there's anything wrong with finding certain ethnic groups physically unattractive - it should be no different to people having preferences for height or build.

Correct, except you have to question why they find them unattractive. It could be because you really don't like the way they look or because you have subscrbed to the stereotypes encouraged by the media and the ignorant, such as all 'asian' people smell bad or that all 'black' people are great athletes.

i think it was mentioned by someone before, but i can't find the post to refer to.

apart from the superficial minimum requirements - non smoker, hopefully non boozer, reasonably attractive, only really look for one thing.

i have to like myself best when i'm with that person.

that means that they make me feel good about myself, that we get on really well, that we "fit" together in our relationship and that we make each other happy.

that's the only (small only) thing i need. other bits are nice, but that's what really matters.

No I was saying had you been unreg the reaction to what you said would have been a lot worse. Makes no difference what I am. And yes some people think it is fine to not like some races, though the person with the actual problem seemed to be concerned about it. I personally think it is wrong to dismiss a colour of people as being unattractive but it is not wrong to think of one as being more so as that is partly down to upbringing etc. However I do find it bizarre that people still distinguish people by the colour of their skin rather than who they are as a person - as such I would never rule out any kind of physical or material differences as I believe that who the person is is much more important than whay they are and if the "click" is there then differences don't matter.

I do think it is weird to think that in a perfect situation you would be with someone of a certain culture or religion and find it very strange that colour/culture/religion would blind you when out on the dating scene. That is all.
hmm - tired now.

If you become too vague, your message is incorrect e.g. saying that Europe agrees with america's political stance on world politics is wrong as is saying that all americans are stupid.

Everyones vague, and its not like its a pc posting! I just wanted to know what people liked! PC is overrated as far as I'm concerned! But lets not get into that, as this isnt what the posting is about!
