I'm still stuck on 1.8

The Donkey has bought a book from eBray and it's fire damaged...I assume that its another misspelling answer to do with fire?

Yup. Think what might increase a book's value (ignoring the fact that it's a cookbook which threw me off) then switch a few letters round.

I'm still really stuck on 1.8. Is it a first edition?

I finally got 9! Once I managed to figure out the possible letters for the 9-letter word (thanks everyone who gave hints on here :)), I tried to find a possible word-ending from the letters I knew were right. Not sure if that helps...but if you think about it, word endings aren't completely random, so there are only a limited number of possibilities.
And the word is mathematic...also used to describe the shape of some skis...

Try this site:

If you've got the word correct then you should find it here....remember the British and American ones are different.

The orchestra dame one?? I've been working on an anagram of "orchestra dame" that has something to do with a night-thing noise...I've got "scream" out of it so far - am probably on the wrong track but that was my thought...

The answer isnt a word that sounds like the last two. the whole thing is a riddle like the mountainous hands one. only the last line is misspelled (BFG style if you've ever read it)to us its not a tyre but attire. link that to the rest of the riddle and try working it out from there. the first line is the best clue to go on.

You're close with the anagram...but the word dame is not in it.... if you look closely at the rest of the sentence you should see why. Think about the way in which the words relate to each other.
