I know - rather sad, isn't it? But then looking at it another way (and assuming the books will be ghost-written as I surely doubt he'll be able to keep up the flow) all these celebrities have huge popular appeal to children and any sort of book they put out will appeal to these children. The happy result is that having discovered what an enjoyable pleasure reading is, they will be tempted to read other books. It can only be a good thing for Libraries (and the few remaining books they have left) even if the subject matter is somewhat dubious.

Now come on say what you will about Rooney like overate and a bit of a thug. But talentless is simply not true. He is one of the best players in the world at the minute and can change a game in a instant

BBC TV last night either on the 10 o'clock news or on Newsnight (can't remember which) did say that all five would be ghost written, however they didn't say that all five books would be biographical infomation about Rooney.

yes he is, he's talentless. People in this country need to realise that it isn't top dollar that makes you world class it's effectiveness in big game situations under pressure. players like kaka and messi and to a lesser extent ronaldo fall in to this catergorie, rooney sadly does not. the only things he has done for his country is stamp on someones bollocks break his foot every time someone so much as speaks to him and just this night give a penalty to russia. he will never be talented maybe thats why he is so angry.

I agree with Tintin in that ghost written fiction books about football under the Rooney brand would be really useful as an aid to introducing young boys to reading (notoriously difficult) but it is a shame that someone with zero talent as a writer is given the opportunity to to be published (and paid handsomely for it) when the ghost-writer gets no credit and is possibly a very good writer.

It's Hunter Davies - who is a very good sports writer, one of the best in fact. Most of his stuff is insightful and original (The Glory Game the best example, his memoirs are also full of great stories). Although I don't plan to read Rooney's book, couldn't think of anything worse.

Oh, and to call Rooney talentless is completely ridiculous, he is hugely talented and has the potential to be a great player - feel silly writing that, it's obvious even to most Rooney-haters.

Perhaps there would be less animosity if each and every one of these people was not so ludicrously, excessively built up by pundits and the press?

I'm awaiting the rugby results as all day on various news bulletins they've been banging on about how Jonny Wilkinson will save "us", just as they have with Rooney, Beckham, et al in the past. Stop seeing it as a team of one and some scenery and stop trumpeting the unparallelled, superhuman skills of an individual player and people might feel less glee when he fucks up.
