Nightclub for St Andrews?

Postby liliputian on Fri Jun 22, 2007 8:26 am

So I got this email today:

Any one know anything else about this? I'm mildly intrigued...

I've certainly heard of The Warehouse Project down in Manchester, and I've heard good things about it.

Most intriguing. This seems to have been kept quite quiet, will be interesting to see what this place is like if/when it's open. May provide a decent alternative to Dundee, anyway!

Wouldn't be hard would it?!

This bit especially has me intrigued, so its not in the town centre, the only place (i can think of) really available is the kwiksave building out on tom morris drive. But would the residents there agree to this?! Either that, or its not actually in St Andrews, which would be kinda silly.

It'd add a whole new level of meaning to 'meat market'.

Yup, that's where I was going with that.

Still, if this place opens, it'll be somewhere for everyone to wear their platinum belt buckles...

Sounds interesting; but how have they managed it. hasn't there been raging protest at the very notion of a nightclub in St. Andrews before now? What's changed?

It is still open. At least there was a truck there and sheep outside just the other day.

Well it does say:

So I'm thinking...it's not actually in St Andrews.

A bus four minutes from the town centre could probably take you out to Guardbridge, or somewhere of similar distance out the other sides of St Andrews...I doubt it will be very close because as has been said, the residents would get it shot down, they have problems enough with the Union.

Isn't the old Somerfield/Kwiksave building going to become an Aldi or a Lidl? Or is that just a rumour?

I can't imagine there being anywhere suitable for a nightclub on the roads out to Strathkinness, or to the East Neuk...

Personally I think it's a wind up.

Yeah I thought it might be a wind up too, but then why go to the trouble of emailing the senior students instead of just posting it on the sinner a la skeleton key?

the name sounds familiar though... is it the skeleton key guy?
In any case, it smells fishy to me.

I was going to post that myself.

Blood and sand. Building next to the West Port. Won't that be a traffic nightmare?

What about kinkell farm? Or do they make too much from the nballs to consider a downscaling?

The somerfield idea is interesting. That land is industrial, not residential, so it is not entirely impossible. Not likely though.

I think I would err on the side of windup for the mean time though.

One thing that I would pick up on is the request not to tell anyone else. This strikes me as very strange. If it is going to open in september then this is the time they would be wanting as much advertising as possible, and if its free, then more the better.

Does anyone think this might even be an attempted con? The e-mail does mention the possibility of advanced fees...

I'm not sure - that's part of the reason why i posted it on here. Though seems a little odd if they had emailed me and no one else...

ask the police if they know anything about it. Won't they have to be aware of/involved in any developments that may cause problems?

To the best of my knowledge, the only people with a full list of the email addresses of the new senior students are myself, Isobel Clifford, Huw Jordan, Lee Kane and Julian Crowe. There is a list on the SRC Accommodation Committee website but I haven't yet got round to updating it with this year's details.
