If you could get a successful alternative/Rock-based Bop organized through the Union, that would be great...however, I seriously doubt there's much chance of it happening. Over the 4 years I've been here, numerous such things have been attempted, and WITHOUT EXCEPTION, they've failed. Rocksoc Hallowe'en discos in the past have fallen horribly flat (even when they've been massively publicised), while the pathetic crowds who routinely fail to pack Venue 1 for any live music event, however popular the band are (interesting factoid: three years ago, the Union booked the So Solid Crew, then comfortably in the Top Ten singles chart, to play in Venue One during Freshers' Week. No-one turned up. Curious as to why, the organizers wandered upstairs, to discover that Rocksoc's Freshers' Disco, in Venue 2, had more people attending. By a clear margin. Go figure) suggest strongly that, frankly, St Andrews students aren't interested in such things in large enough numbers to make it a viable proposition for the Union (who, however much they may deny it, still act under the FALSE assumption that their primary responsibility is to make as much money as they can from Union-based events).
Basically, it's been tried too many times, in one form or another, for me to hold out much hope of it succeeding. Plus, err...what Benedict said. Good luck, but I suspect you'll need it.
