Also liked the Sword in teh Sand and i thought Love Factually adn Donald where's your troosers? should have got into the top 12.
Of course, the fact that you were in the team that made the Donald where's your troosers video, means that you can offer a completely unbiased opinion and say that your team deserved to be in the top 12.
Personally I think that there was a good selection in the top 12, ranging from the artistic, to the comic, to the slightly more serious. I am still reserving my own personal judgement until all the films have been made available online and I can watch them.
It is very hard though to be able to compare films which are of complete different genre. You can hardly compare Straight to Video, which I thought was funny, and enjoyable (i'm not just saying that cos I know the people who made it), with The Last Broadcast, which is more serious, or The Bully, which is more sentimental.(Both which I also enjoyed)
The judges have a very hard job to do, they have to remain as unbiased as possible and judge the films for what they are, and not purly on how much they enjoyed it. If not you could end up with 12 winning films which are all comedies because the judge likes to laugh and is not into artistic films.
It is fair enough for people to give their opinion and say "oh this was complete rubbish, team x should have won, not team y". The exact same things are said about the Oscars and other awards. Just because that is what you think doesn't mean that it is
right. People who are posting saying "my film was better, it should have been in the top 12, or top 3", really should stop being sore losers, so you never won, get over it.
I think that a better way to judge it would be to let the judges decide what films fulfil all the requirements of the Campus Movie Fest rules, and put those it to a peoples vote, put the films online for a week or 2 and let the people decide who should win what awards. Seems alot more democratic to me then relying solely on a few judges.
Right my wee rant over, sorry if you don't agree, but thats my opinion.
