Fur Fabric for Costume

Postby random on Thu Oct 21, 2004 10:08 am

I've posted about this on the Wanted board, but since I need answers quickly-ish, I thought I'd pop something up here to.

Basically I need to purchase some fur-fabric, specifically about a metre of long white fur and a few metres of grey fur.

Does anybody know of any shops in Dundee where I might acquire such items? :)

Cheers

I think just fur-fabric is what he asked for. You know, the fluffy stuff that some stuffed toys are made out of... not real fur.

if you go to the shopping centre thats not the overgate (cant remeber its name, but its the one with tk max, hmv and bhs) then if you stand facing the entrace and turn right, follow that road round to the right and on the opposite side of the road is a fabric shop. then if you come out of there and cross back over the road and keep walking to the right, theres another one thats up a little alley, but theres a display window on the main road so you'll see where it is.

Im sorry these directions arnt more specific, but i dont know any of the road names or anything in dundee sorry :(

Cheers guys,

I managed to pick up 2 metres of grey faux-fur today in a small shop called "In Stiches" which is just around the corner from the carpet/furniture store place on Largo Road. They were most helpful :) I still need a bit of white fur, sorta long-ish and fluffy type stuff... it's for a bunny-rabbit outfit.

For the record, I wasn't looking for real fur.

...and the reason I'm looking to make a bunny rabbit costume, is because I want to dress up as Frank from Donnie Darko ;)

I think I more-or-less have what I need to make the mask. I'm hoping to make a mould out of clay, then papier-macher over it or something. That may not work though, cause the mouth-bit will be tricky, so I might make a second mould with plaster of paris and sorta stuff the papier-macher into that. Should be an interesting project :)

Anyway, I'm rambling now.

Cheers again for the info...

I'm told there are lots of rabbits out by Melville if you fancy hiding in a hedge with an air rifle

That's gonna be one sweet costume if you can pull it off. Frank Rocks! will look out for you on halloween, will you be posing for photos?! A photo of frank is sure to freak out peeps back home. I went for the easier more boring option of samwise gamgee, still gotta make my cloak tho

making an elven cloak might be easier that making a full size rabbit outfit, but i would hardly call it easy, or boring.

i want to meet you guys on halloween, or the friday night when all the parties are.

I'm assembling a league of extraordinary gentlemen, with an invisible man, a mina harker/murray, myself as Henry Jekyll, and a mate who's been roped in to be either Allan Quatermain or Dorian Gray. Should be lots of fun!

ok, so i've made the cloak now, doesn't look too bad. 3 questons tho; the colour of the material is too bright a green, any ideas on how to darken it? Does anyone know where i can get some hobbit/elf ears in either st andrews or dundee? also how to i get my hair to look like sam's? ATM its the right colour and length but perfectly straight and i have no idea how to make it curlier. any suggestions?

There's a shop run by an Asian guy just down the alleway on the righthand side of Marks and Spencer's (walking down the high street towards the overgate) that sells lots of material - I've seen pink polka dot fur in their so I'm sure it'll stock plain fake fur as well

If I can pull it off, I'll definitely pose for photos for you :)

Good luck with the Samwise costume...

You reckon all the parties will be on Friday?

Hmmmm... I really doubt I'll have it done by then. In fact, it could be tough to get it done before Halloween! Not to worry, I've got an idea in the pipeline that will encorporate it. Fingers crossed I can get it done before Sunday though...

That sounds cool man, I'll let you know how I get on...
