I managed to miss the May Dip last year as I got absolutley paralytic, threw up in my common room and had to be helped to my room by the subwarden...

The May Dip is simply magical. No taking the piss there...
It is in May though, not November, because the powers that be, many many years ago, decreed that it would be and also had an inkling that a certain Ashley would be away for 1st semester but back for the 2nd.
