Fresher's Week

Postby Plump DJ on Sat Jul 23, 2005 2:04 pm

Anyone know what/who the union events/artists for fresher's week will be? I need to make up my mind on whether to go back to Standrews early or not soon. Hope thay can get someone from either Ninja Tune or Finger Lickin' record labels. That would be amazing.

When Toploader came here I thanked God that they hadn't brought Dodgy back again.

The acts haven't been confirmed yet, but as soon as they have been, the lineup will be published.

How much would you be wiling to pay to see Faithless at the union?

Just a little one, mind.

I'm not coming back to St Andrews, but if I were, I don't think £20 would be out of the question for Faithless. I mean, we paid £18 for The Proclaimers. Though, they were pretty immense.

How can you even consider not coming back for Freshers Week, its not about bands its about a week of getting pissed and laughing at freshers who are lost, and trying to pull said freshers.

I'm doing a play in Freshers Week, which will be the best thing ever and will only probably cost a few quid, so you should come and see it, its "I Love You and Other Lies" at the Crawford, Thurs Fri and Saturday, and its a zuloo production involving Blin Mirth, and its really good and totally original.

If the MC is there and will be on stage for a good while then I definately pay £10-15, possibly a little more if it's just Faithless playing. They've got some great tunes. Please get a hip-hop/dance/breakbeat/trip-hop act (mr scruff, plump DJs, Jehst etc), not a rock or pop act.

Fury-161: Who here besides you and I even know who Amon Tobin is, let alone would like his music? I'm guessing very few. The majority of people want stuff they can just get wasted to and dance to in venue 1.

Any relation of plant biology lecturer Dr Alison Tobin?

If thats a serious question, they are a sort of trip-hop / dance duo who have been quite active for the last 10 years probably. I think most people would recognise "God is a DJ" or "Insomnia"...

Thanks Niall.
Perhaps I should have explained who "Thackary" is.

I'm Oli Walker, Design and Marketing Officer for the Students' Association. I'm responsible for the marketing and publicity of events and services, including Freshers' Week (Orientation).

As soon as the acts have been confirmed, the lineup will be published. We'll post it on the SA's website, and also on The Sinner.

Amon tobin would be nice, but I'd rather have Mogwai or Arab Strap.

YES! Although the chances of getting either of those bands to play is absolutely nil, unfortunately.

Malcolm Middleton might be achievable though, and almost equally as awesome.
