I expect Flare is right and it was a guillemot or razorbill. Wait until winter, and you'll probably get to see many, many of these birds washed up dead on the beach. I counted 45 one day. Does anyone know what does this? Is it storms, disease, some kind of poisoning?

Storms. They are driven ashore by an offshore wind as they are particularly weak fliers, and fly close to the surface so cannot go "over" the weather. They either starve, die of exhaustion or ride it out on the beach until the weather calms down.

For any of those who are convinced that they have seen a penguin, I wouldn't worry too much about having to carry your head high in decent society after admitting to it.

A good friend of mine also reckons she saw it on Friday nght.

And she's a Marine Biologist
