Yay! More uncontested elections!

And of course, the funny name game for those that are.

Now some people weren't happy about the content of that last post. And we can't have someone not happy. Not on the internet.

How can they be uncontested when nominations haven't even opened?

What he's saying is that they'll likely be uncontested after nominations have closed :P

Funky flunky munky...
So someone asked me "What is it you do?". I thought about it for a minute. Then I thought about it a little more. All the while I probably looked like I was staring in to space, struggling for an answer. And I was. There was only one response I could really give.

"I make sure the shit stays off the fan."

As Gealle points out, every election is contested with Re-Open Nominations.

And of course, there's a way of stopping them all being uncontested, and that's by running, if you feel you could do the job better. We'd love to have you on-board.

There is another way. Cut the number of piddling little positions. Half of those posts could easily be filled at a carve-up.

Isn't there an enivronmental rep? Or have I missed something obvious?

The reps for the E&E committee come from concerned societies and the SRC and SSC. The only elected position in a traditional diet of elections is the E&E officer, which is run in March.

I honestly didn't think the SRC could become more of a laughing stock, but with one day to go there are virtually no opposed posts at all! How does the Union expect the police, university, and council etc etc to take them seriously when they become nothing but a self perpetuating oligarchy? There must be individual AU clubs now that have more contested elections.

Why on earth does it need to say why Steve Savage has withdrawn?

In what way does "withdrawn for personal reasons" need to be said? Why not just say "withdrawn".

Can you be withdrawn for impersonal reasons?

It is a shame that so few of these are uncontested. I do wish that more were, I really do. But, how can you make people run for stuff, if they do not want, nor have the will to?

You could begin by making the SRC relevant to people. People need to know not only what the SRC does but what each individual post is meant to achieve. That is not helped by having so many posts of little importance or need. Many of them could be scrapped without anyone missing them. If such posts are needed then they should be carve-up posts. And I would suggest bringing back hall representation to the SRC.

Presumably with Crichton Montrose with an elected hall committee too, perhaps?
