General etiquette while flyering appears to be that if you walk behind us, behind the railings, you are not heckled. Standard practice.
On the other hand, where else can we let people know about productions, sell tickets, promote societies, and everything else? As for 'ballroom dancing', that would be MY society, and James and I were the only ones flyering. We weren't rude, or confrontational, just smiled, handed out flyers and occasionally played music. I don't mind if people say 'no thank you', but looking straight through us, or deliberately ignoring us completely is pretty bloody rude. The number of people who say they haven't heard of anything til afterwards is rising. Plus, you guys deserve heckling if you'll pester the plays selling tickets about Christmas Ball tickets, when it's common knowledge they've sold out, no one is there, and two of us have constructed a sign to hold saying 'Christmas Ball sold out, do not ask us'!
And that said, you have to be pretty inovative to catch people's eyes these days. One of the ticket sellers from 'Shrew' was doing a mock-beggar impression, pleading for ticket-sales to feed his biscuit habit. It got laughs, wasn't intrusive, and also got sales. Heckling is good for us socs and events, so put up with it, or get good at sneaking in to the library!
