On the first day of the summer holidays, if that got inside the terminal and the fire spread, I would dare say it'd be a fuck sight more serious than what was planted in London.

However, if that got into the terminal building, went up... We'd be talking MAJOR deaths, no terminal...

Wasn't it just petrol? There would have been a fire but not an explosion. Therefore it wasn't anywhere near as serious as what happened in London. It's a bit of an exaggeration to say it would have been a major incident.

So someone asked me "What is it you do?". I thought about it for a minute. Then I thought about it a little more. All the while I probably looked like I was staring in to space, struggling for an answer. And I was. There was only one response I could really give.

Two car bombs filled with nails outside nightclubs vs a jeep on fire.

Come on. The jeep was never going to get far. Yes they could've set fire to a few people and injured lots more but the fire could never spread quickly enough in a building like a terminal to catch people escaping.

Straight through the doors the jeep was aimed at leads directly to the luggage transport area for the major airlines. There's a lot of electrical circuitry round that area too.

Wouldn't want to put money on it not spreading quickly.

Airports terminals are designed with the possibility of big flaming objects crashing into them in mind. Simple fire has nothing on a bomb. If the jeep was packed with explosives then yeah, nasty.

Why would Gay Pride be targetted? It has very high levels of security so it would be pretty difficult. I went yesterday and didn't even think about terrorist threats.

Well overt promotion of homosexuality might well incense many people of conservative moral let alone muslim extremists bent on bringing Western Civilisation to and end.

I don't understand these terrorists at all. Their targets and methods always seem bizarre to me. If I were a terrorist, I'd do things a lot differently. More effectively, for one thing.

Now, if that car was also carrying a bomb, that would be a different story, but I don't think we have that information yet.

David, the car had 2 or 3 butane gas cylinders in it. If they had gone off i'm sure it would have been a different story.

Well, looks like you were mostly wrong, and it is indeed a terrorist attack.

The lunatics are on the grass. Wonderful. And now Scotland pays - good luck to that pair of twats Salmond and Brown... they'll need it.

Salmond and Brown? What have either to do with this? So they're both scottish, but so was Blair, oh so Brown decides it suits him to be proud of it. Just a guess, your one of the miss guided twats who thinks the renewal of the trident 'defence' system will prevent this sort of idiocy.

I feel sorry for the muslim community atm. it must suck to have people as dumb as these bombers, trying to associate themselves with you.

I really hope Burnsie pulls through. The notion of him rotting away in Barlinnie for the next 50 years appears to be apt justice. Doubt he'll see through the week with 'extensive' burns though.

PS - Why are people trying to compare this attack and the one in London in terms of 'seriousness' its hardly a competition!

The explosive devises used in all three cases were essentially the same.

Gas canisters surrounded by petrol (sorry if you american :P).

That is likely the reason the "Allah! Allah!" dude was running to open the boot whilst covered in flames.

Looking at the thread title again, I can't help thinking that it would make a great name for a drink.

Perhaps a pint of buckfast with a bailies shot dropped in it?

So apparently they've arrested some doctors.

Part of me finds it hard to believe that people who are otherwise dedicated to preserving life and healing could wish to do so much harm. It's a naive part of me, but still. It just doesn't sit right (if, of course, true, given 'alleged' etc etc etc)

I'm genuinely impressed with this thread - there hasn't been a single "Well, it's because of the war in Iraq, Scotland should pull out of the UK and then we could have our own foreign policy" post, and we're on page three.

I heard that on the radio when I was out in the car on Saturday evening. It's complete crap, as if any terrorist hellbent on destruction would either know nor care about the difference.

So fundamentalists Islamists attempt mass murder then suicide for no reason whatsoever?

Care to tell me of when France and Germany have had incidents like this, despite having sizeable Islamic communities?
