Message Board Suggestions

This thread is about what differences you would like in the structure of the website itself.


My first comment would be that I don't like the title "Re: Post Title" in every reply to a thread. Since there is no nesting of replies and since only one thread is displayed at a time having this plastered down the page over and over just gives me a headache.

The point of having it plastered down the page is, like the old Sinner, you can change the subject of your post at any point. It's also about the only simple way you can get the ID of, or link to, a particular post in a thread.

I'd like to see the main message board on the front page.

If that's not possible (I realise there's lots of exciting new features to pimp on the front page) could there be a nice permalink to the main board

viewforum.php?f=2 isn't as easy to remember as, for example main would be, I think this kind of address is possible in joomla.

I've given The New Sinner an opportunity to prove itself before commenting.

Overall, I like it. I just have a few usability issues with keeping the site stream-lined and readable.

I would prefer the times in a 24-hour format. When I'm just scanning, I find that much easier to understand that having to look for the am/pm after the numbers.

I would like to suggest the removal of the (now-on-the-left) user info bar. It is redundant (the user name is already displayed at the top of the post and I don't actually care when the poster joined or how many posts he or she has to her name--if I did, I'd just click on the user name and find out) and I find it distracting.
No avatars. They would just clog things up.

Yeah I'm sure the post count is wonky. I was at 350 odd last week and I have not posted 100 times in the past week.

Note that the new forums count individual posts, not topics. It also counts posts that are are in forums that have since been removed from public view (eg, the old Union message board). So you do indeed have 463 posts.

This can be set by individual users in the User Control Panel linked at the top of each page. Similarly, avatars can be turned off, along with other things.

I got to the bottom of this thread before noticing the avatars. Duh. But, woohoo .

The only thing I hate is the 'save' button. I've never seen that before and have never needed to save anything in the past, so it's frustrating that I keep hitting it instead of submit.

Can we have a quickreply box at the bottom of each thread? Clicking on the post reply button, or the "go advanced" button underneath said box in order to unlock the more complicated tools for posting, like adding polls or whatever.
