The response is OVERWHELMINGLY positive with only a minority of you intellectually-impaired fuckwits, attempting but FAILING to make a coherent point. This has been a massive massive success not matter what anyone says.

We, the collected students of the St Andrews Solidarity with Palestine Campaign, are writing to express our outrage at the treatment of student occupiers by New York University and the violent handling of protesters by the NYPD.

We also want to express our outrage at the responses of various universities to student actions, specifically:

Nottingham, where the university closed the occupied building, cut the power supply and then forcibly evicted students.

Sheffield Hallam, where the protest ended peacefully after the police were called to evict them. Several of them were later suspended.

Cambridge, where the students were threatened with suspension and eventually starved out.

Oh. Shit. What. Have. We. Got. Ourselves. Into.

Yes, but the people who are going to lose all that are a defence. I, as someone apparently without a conscience,am thinking of the people who would lose their jobs and livelihoods so you can make a worthless statement designed to more to make yourself feel good than to do anything constructive.

The "Israelis" (who are divided amongst themselves about the situation, you'll remember, and not a single evil behemoth) who want to continue bombing Gaza do not give a shit if a company - which just happens to operate within ex-Syrian territory, amongst other places - loses a bit of cash.

"we have so far been ‘politely’ asked on more than one occasion to leave the building; both times we have refused"

So, in fact, you've been asked to leave twice? Wow. The university authorities are obviously deeply concerned by the infestation of muppets in College Hall. I wonder what they'll do next. Cut off your pocket money?

Damn, I don't get online for a few days and this happens.

Only read to page 5 so far but I really hope neither the S.A. helps nor the uni meets the demands of the protestors. It's far less than half the uni protesting so it's undemocratic to give them what they want. I personally disagree with every one of the five demands of the protestors.

And with regards of hiding behind a computer and username according to guest, I think most people know exactly who I am.

Are they still there? I feel sorry for the poor Estates man who has to keep an eye on them so they don't accidentally burn the place down. It's hardly a proper protest when the guy nominally representing authority is standing outside picking his nose and looking bored. Maybe next week the University will tire of pandering to them and take a tougher line.

It's now a race to see the (so far) unique tolerance the University has shown wearing out VS the capacity for 'suffering & hardship' of the proponents for this clapped-out cause.

I prefer watching the six nations but this will do in a pinch.

I suggest blasting the soundtrack from Mamma Mia - the Musical at them until they give in. If anyone can lend me the equipment I might even do it myself!

Actually, I'm kind of complimented that someone thinks I could successfully rouse a rabble. Cor. Nice.

It's probably worth clarifying that this occupation is one rabble I really did not help raise. I've had a fairly minor role so far, mainly involving facilitating meetings, so don't give me the credit on this one.

Back to bickering, folks.

I think that might constitute cruel and unusual punishment under the Geneva Convention. What time does it start?

It raised a smile when I saw on their great horarium of events the following: "Facilitating Workshop– Learn how to Facilitate a consensus meeting, led by Harry Giles" - how did I guess he would be in there :p

You think they have even heard of what is happening? If they have they would most likely be laughing at how pathetically bad this protest is.

I still fail to see how this has been a "massive massive success". It still seems utterly pathetic and childish to me.

You have achieved nothing. You have belittled and insulted the situation in palestine with this eden springs protest and managed to make yourselves look like a bunch of fannies in the process. I think the individuals involved in this protest take themselves a bit more seriously than they take their cause.

Please grow up.

Oh my, the gales of laughter from people reading this thread. You are all on the most part hilariously wrong. The extent of the support for this protest is really nothing short of overwhelming, that word is not used lightly, the positive reaction goes in to the several hundreds.

Do any of you really think that because a dozen or so angry, nonsensical messageboard users disapprove that this will somehow alter people's perceptions of what is really going on? Don't hide behind a keyboard - COME DOWN AND SEE FOR YOURSELF. Until then you have absolutely no idea what is really going on and cannot accurately assess the situation.

The truth as I have seen it first-hand is that support in St Andrews is the majority opinion.

Hamas has expressed an interest in being included in the St Andrews milk run, they've heard there are bad ass students here who really know how to hit Israel where it hurts

Oh my, the more moronic members of the protest group really should restrain themselves lest they tarnish the group as a whole. (spoke too soon, well done unregs, great way to win hearts and minds)

I'm rather surprised by the reported heavy handling by other universities, although I suppose erecting a physical barricade is getting a little serious/childish and is in need of a firm addressing.
However, the St Andrews group has yet to damage university property as far as I am aware.

I am starting to get the impression that the resolve of the group isn't nearly as strong as originally implied (how many are actually "occupying" full time?) and I can't see them lasting much longer anyway to be honest. The university seems keen to keep up good PR but also seem to be stalling doing anything to actually address the demands of the group, probably hoping they give up soon. If they want to hurry them up they could always just cut off the wi-fi and/or power, once the fun element to it is removed you can be in no doubt that they'll go home.

I know that there's been Courier coverage, (http://www.thecourier.co.uk/output/2009 ... 3433t0.asp) but have the Beeb had anything?

As for the massive, massive support, did anybody else think of this man?

Come down and take part in your juggling classes, maybe read some poetry with you, have a jolly good old sing song, or maybe I could learn how to facilitate a meeting with good old Harry Giles?! No thanks. These nonsensical messageboard users happen to be a reasonable contingent of the rest of the student body that happen to disagree with what you are doing. You come on here thinking you are some sort of crusading white knight when in fact you merely come across as a child, upset that your mummy doesn't like the lovely picture you drew for her. Go back to your sleepover before you say anything else that makes you, and indeed your cause look any more foolish.

Apart from reading posts in favour of the protest on here, I've yet to meet or hear from someone I know who thinks anything positive about this clown convention.

The protest in LCH gets serious as the juggling workshop starts:
