Windows Vista zooming

How do I turn off this awful automatic zoom thing that comes with vista?

It zooms in on web-pages and pdf files, without me seemingly doing anything except touching the mouse pad. I've looked in mouse settings, and in the "ease of access" settings in the control panel.

I've googled my little heart out but can't find a solution, though I might be using the wrong search terms. Please help before I throw my new laptop out of the window!

If it's not a silly question, how exactly does it go about doing the zooming? Do you hover the mouse pointer over something, and then... it automatically zooms? Or you press something and it zooms? I've not heard of or personally encountered such a feature myself, but if you give us a bit more detail, I might be able to figure it out, heh.

It's not a silly question, because I honestly can't work out when I'm doing. It just seems that I when I swipe the mousepad it zooms, when all I'm actually doing is going to move the page.

The cursor doesn't change that I've noticed.

I don't know how else to describe it really.

It's a Dell studio if that makes any difference

I wonder if it's some kind of "feature" of the trackpad on the Dell. Is there any kind of trackpad configuration utility in the control panel or the start menu, or maybe in the system tray (the bit where all the little icons are in the bottom right)?

I've found the icon in the system tray, but can't figure out what you changed to stop it doing this! I was so chuffed when I saw your question, as I assumed I was doing something characteristically retarded to make it do this, so it's a relief to know it's not just me! So what's the secret?!

Definately not just you - it's so irritating and I have no idea why Dell thought it was a good idea.

If you go to the system tray and open the "dell touchpad" icon (it looks a bit like a computer screen with two buttons underneath). Click on "scrolling and zoom settings". Uncross/Untick the box next to "enable" (or pick between circular scrolling/zoom, although I just took both off).
