See title...

What's yours?

(Also, I cannot believe there haven't been more library related rants on here this exam period!)

I'm currently listening to Sigur Rós - Hafssól. Music so far this evening has also included assorted classical pieces, some delightful Ludovico Einaudi, and some Karl Jenkins. Generally ambient-ish/instrumental/relaxing music.

Oasis, Idlewild, Basement Jaxx (and other dance music - the beat and crap lyrics help me concentrate) & Test Match Special. No library rants from me as I've been working from home, the office or coffee shops. Much better for stress, although productivity may be a little down.

Slow classical music helps me revise and meditate best I find.

Blue Danube Waltz is my current fave.

I've recently discovered the entire Final Fantasy Piano Collections discography, including tunes from games V - X-2, because I am (as orudge has once described me) a "filthy nerd".
It really makes for excellent background music, and boosts poductivity for me. =)
... Except when I'm not wishing I hadn't given up on piano...

I used to favour a largely classical playlist, with Jazz being more popular as I get into the swing of things, but sometimes I can't concentrate even with that. Just now, for example, I'm listening to the wonderful noise that is a loudly ticking mechanical clock. And that's it.

A bit of metal helps me concentrate. In Flames, linkin park, still remains, ADTR etc. And some good acoustic stuff city & colour. Maybe even some D&B.

Seriously though I study by far the best in silence. Even something like Ambient 1 1/1 or En Attendant Cousteau, which I used to have playing sometimes, I've realised hinder more than help.

I am also currently listening to Sigur Rós whilst revising :) Although I am clearly reading the sinner and procrastinating.

Most often I can be found listening to Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt or Neil Young during revision period. Nick Drake is good too. Basically stuff that I know so well that it just kind of flows in the background and doesn't distract me, if I listen to songs I don't know I start listening to the words and then procrastination rears its ugly head.

For me it either has to be nothing at all, or beatless lyricless ambient stuff (BlueMars' Cryosleep stream is epic for revision/lab work --> http://bluemars.org/cryosleep.php ).

Generally either Porcupine Tree or The Mars Volta.

I find prog works best since I'm not having to care whether I like the next track for a long period.

My first ever study music, which has never failed me, and which I keep coming back to now, is Mike Oldfield. Nothing else quite like it to help me focus.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Ah, yes, Mike Oldfield, another pleasant choice. I'm currently listening to a selection of random post-rock type music.

The Mars Volta isn't prog, its interference and white noise. Even the Red Hot Chilli Peppers sound like audiophile label jazz in comparison to how badly mastered the Volta are.

"What about this track?"

"MOAR GAIN, MOAR VOLUME!"

"But, you can only make it so loud, CDs only hold so much loudness."

"NONSENSE, TURN EVERYTHING UP MOAR!"

"It'll all be brickwalled. It'll sound crap..."

"NO IT'LL SOUND AWESOME IT'LL BE LIKE A LIVE CONCERT COMING OUT OF PEOPLES MINI SYSTEMS!"

"But, people own volume dials. Maybe we could let them decide to turn up better sounding music than to turn down a wall of compressed static?"

"MOOOAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR VOLUME I SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!"

And its a damn shame because the music would porbably be quite enjoyable otherwise.
