Halls!!!

Postby Guest on Mon Mar 15, 2004 12:05 am

Hello, was just wondering if anybody knows anything about the hall application forms. They are out tomorrow, supposedly. If anybody knows how we find out or what to do if we get rejected, it would be a great help.

Yea, I don't know whether we'll get them tomorrow, but certainly some time this week. I presume they'll e-mail us??

it is letters. i was working on the assumption that the university is moving towards using email for all the important notices, and that we had to apply through the computer system.

And will we get it *today*? All things considered i wouldn't trust any date they gave us...

Unless people have already got letters and i just haven't got in...gahh! What the hell was wrong with emailing us??

Doubt we'll get told today - that'd be faaar too efficient. They put off the applications for days, wouldn't be surprised if they did the same with the replies.

People in Hamilton this year applying back to Hamilton are getting their letters from Steve the warden between 3 and 6.

I was up at accommodation services this afternoon. All the letters are in the process of being sent out. They've been put into boxes according to which hall they're going to and are being delivered by cars and a minibus to their destination. Hopefully everyone should have theirs by the end of the day!
Best of luck.

Rejection

Postby Abracadabra on Mon Mar 15, 2004 6:22 pm

What do you do if you got rejected? Are there any flats still available?

I have a friend who got rejected from New Hall catered and was only given the options of Andrew Melville catered or the possibility of DRA if finished, or university managed accommodation. Where does she start, should she look for flats? Are there any 2 person 9-month lease ones available?

Can you swap with someone you know is going to decline their place in hall? The letter says you can't but surely it would save them a lot of time and hassle to do things that way?

Eeeek! How many other people are in this position?

People always change their minds about coming to university here over the summer so some spaces should probably free up then. Also others take a position in halls as a backup in case they don't get a flat. There's still a chance you won't be living on the West sands.

Do you know if they have posted all the letters? I've had neither a rejection or acceptance, although all the other people that I applied with have got into our Gatty house.

There's a line in the letter which says that they've allocated mroe places than they have already since they expect some people with flats to decline, but that it's not possible to put my friend on the waiting list in the event that happens?

Thats really something you, or rather your friend, should ask the warden of the hall. Unless they are really unhelpful i can't see how they wouldn't do that
