Saint Smaint!

Just wordering what the general feeling is toward the saint? Dont get me wrong most of the articles and columns are written with a great degree of skill which is great but what is with the trashy section in the middle with all the picture of students. All that seems to happen is said photogarpher takes pics of students trying to have a good time and then proceeds to trash them with stupid little captions at the bottom. Just ranting a bit but surely the saint could to better without this poor excuse for humour.

Every time they mention me I have issue with them! The first time they called me a girl. The second time they gave me one heart out of five for attractiveness and said I was trying to climb the ladders of the union. Rude rude people.

I quite like the Halo section to be honest. It basically just sends-up Yahs by giving them enough rope to hang themselves with.

I think the only think holding back Halo is the lack in variety of people IN the photo's. I wouldn't necessarily blame the editor for this as they can only use what they've got but something seriously should be done to stop it turning into a 'JBH' page...I think I've said this too many times now

I think its quite amusing, specially when u see one of your friends in it :) Though I dont think I'd appriciate it as much if they attacked me :) Spose its a bit of a double edged sword

It used to be far better than it is. Some of the reporters are pretty good. Halo is crap - editorials are largely bollocks. Two years ago it was worth reading.

what you see in halo of JBH is in fact the tame parts and i think midget is doing a great job. it's far better than a hundred and one photos of a bunch of plastered yahs.

My point was that its the same group of people every fortnight in Halo, thus only entertaining a select few.

I bought The Saint once. Meh. St Andrews is such a small town there is no need for a paper, everyone knows everything soon enough as it is.

It's not about having a paper for the town of St. Andrews anyways. This is obviously a paper for the school and I think the Saint is a great establishment. The quality of it is pretty much irrelevant (though I do think it's rather good, Bubsy.)

so, just having it exist is enough for you? it's nice that it's there, but it would also be nice if it was worth reading.

It's there to give us something to relate to. I'm sorry for those that like it, but that shit in the citizen, past previews/reviews there ain't much there for me. Truthfully so though some stuff in the saint ain't for me either, but there is good banter and other things that do pertain to me I think that's what people want is even though they may be not, just a chance to be noticed or talked about or be like "yeah i remember that" or "yeah i was there" when they see something that relates to them.

This is not a 'school'. It is a university.

What an original thread. Still good to have some publicity for the Saint.

What the fuck is the difference? I'm sorry if my americanisms confuse some people. If you're really trying to make a statement in the comment OK but I'm sorry I can't stand neat picky people on message boards e.g. that whol thread on spelling errors.

In the UK, it means something different. It refers to educational institutions which are pre-university level.

To call St Andrews a school is to be incorrect.

the saint v. the rest

Postby euan bowker on Mon Mar 22, 2004 5:30 pm

I think we should always keep in mind the following:

Firstly, The Saint is an independent paper, which obviously means that it doesn't, for instance, have an agenda of supporting the union/uni/whatever, but also that it doesn't get support, in terms of training, etc. Given that there isn't a media studies course here, I think the saint people do pretty well - they are self-taught after all.
Second, the Saint's won loads of awards. It even won last year's herald one, and it looks to be more on form this year (esp. layout).
Finally, for all its shortcomings, it's a hell of a lot better than most other student papers! And probably better than the other st andrews papers too.
